 Subject: Neutral Safety Switch?

My 1998 5.2 Dakota will not start. About a month ago, I had a CEL for a code that read park/neutral safety switch. I had been busy and was not able to replace it. The CEL went off a few days after having the code read and the truck continued to run fine. The battery in the ole' girl died last night and I charged it this morning but now, no start. Think this crank but no start symptom can be traced to this switch? I tried starting in both Park and Neutral and neither allowed the truck to start. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Could be but, the park/neutral switch shouldn't allow the engine to even crank.
