Subject: 1999 5.2 dakota won't start IP: Logged
Message: I'm in Colorado Springs CO, so high elevation at 6,000' and temps ranging from 0-40f. My girlfriend left the dome light on and the battery died. I attempted to jump it and it would just turn over and not start. I then charged the battery with a trickle charger back to 100% and attempted again, this time with a shot of ether on the air filter and still no luck.
It seems like it wants to start and every now and then it seems like it starts rumble like I'm getting combustion, but then it stops.
My only guess is it's not getting fuel...could my pump be bad? How could I tell? Any other ideas?
It was working great and all of a sudden after the battery died it won't start.

Message: Thanks! I'm trying to locate a chilton/haynes manual now so I can familiarize myself with the vehicle. But until I can get to the store for one or online, can anyone tell me where the valve is located?
I appreciate the help,
Aaron

Message: I only have a tire gauage which doesn't fit over the valve, but when I depress the head I get a little squirt of fuel but there isn't a constant flow (this is with the key in the on position), is this normal? It does re-prime after I cycle the key off and then on.
Is this normal or am I not getting enough pressure?

Message: UPDATE:
Well I'm stumped now...I cranked the vehicle and held the valve down and it's definitely getting enough fuel.
So now where do I start troubleshooting

Message: Getting fuel and getting correct fuel pressure is 2 different things!
This isn't something you can guess at!
Fuel pressure MUST BE checked for CORRECT PSI
to rule out fuel pump issues!

Message: Thanks for the advice everyone!
Turns out it was the battery?
I don't understand how, many it just wasn't turnign over fast enough? It's just odd because it never started when I was jumping with my other vehicle?
Oh well it's cranking up great now! Next step now is trying to get some of it's power back...will be searching the forums!
