Good day all.

My 2000 4.7 liter SLT gets about 13 mpg avg just driving around town.

Just wondering what kind of mpg other owners are getting.

My 98 v-6 gets a solid 12mpg, i have three 1989 dak v-6s they all get high 11-low 12 mpg and my 94 Bucketmobile i'm not sure, i have done a few mods in between desert trips and havent taken it out for about a year but without pulling a trailer i was near 14mpg mostly freeway, last time i took it out, the trip before that i was pulling a trailer and fighting a brutal headwind from Yuma AZ to San Diego and got 7mpg.

Always been able to get 15 mpg from my '00 4x4 4.7 without trying.
Jerry - yours sounds low unless you have a 4x4 quad cab; or lots of stop and go.

I have an '03 4.7L. I drive 30 miles to work everyday and I'm getting 15.5mpg. If I'm just driving around town, I get around 13.

My '00 QC 4x2, 5spd w/ 3.55's and 15" tires gets about 19 around town and if I keep it under 70 on the hwy I can get 24mpg. Only thing other than stock is my v8 TB and no mechanical fan.

Daddio,

Did you replace the stock fan with an electric one. If so, did you see a noticable increase in mpg from that mod.

Have not heard of anyone doing that before.

JerryM, '00 & up trucks came with the mechincal fan and an electric fan. I jut removed the mechanical fan and clutch and run with the electric. Maybe .5-1 mpg. I did a couple of other mods at the same time so those combined definitely made an improvement. Another thing that probably helped is I went from the tiny 215/75/15's to 235/75/15's. The one inch taller tires dropped my RPM a little.

I might pull my mechanical fan off and give that a try, guess Dodge put 2 in for redundancy but I will keep it in the bed in the event the electric goes up.

I put flowmasters on, 50 series and have a bed cover but did not really see any big change after making those mods.

Have you tried a V8 TB or a performance 48mm TB?

My Dak has the 4.7 liter V-8, never made any changes to the engine. Does this mod you mention allow more air flow, and increased mpg possibly?

Darn, I missed the 4.7 in your first post. I think there are of couple of performance TB's out there for it. Maybe one of the 4.7 guys will chime in.

You might not want to keep the manual fan in your truck bed - if a blade gets bent, it can throw the balance off. Been running without one for a couple years with no overheat issues.
Your '00 came with the smallest TB, 65mm. Next year went up to 68mm. There is a torque step in either that can be ported out for a bit more flow. The '01 68mm will bolt onto your '00; and there are even larger aftermarket TBs. The manual transmission guys seem to notice the biggest performance gains from a bigger TB. I wouldn't expect to see much milage increase there; I didn't see any.
How about the basics ? How old are your plugs, condition of your air filter ? What is the configuration of your cab ? 4x4 ? What are you running for tires, gearing ? As I mentioned earlier, lots of stop and go ?

Iam getting 15mpg just driving around town. This is in a stroked 340 in a Shelby Dak.Drove 75 miles to and from the strip, ran the truck 7 times still got 15 mpg. I guess driving 150 miles freeway driving helped out. I ran 8.71/80 mph in 1/8 11.17/90 mph in 1000 ft. full street trim.

Kowalski,

Good idea about the fan.....I am going to pull mine off soon.

I keep the truck tuned and running good and tires and correct psi and change the pvc/plugs every 20k and the air filter about every 10k. I do have the SLT model with the bigger tires/4x4 so that eats up some gas.

Had an Amsoil foam air filter for about the first 5 years, never seen much improvement so went back with the stock filter.
