Message: I never drove a 5speed with the 3.55 gears - even more rare than the 3.92s I think - so I can't compare. But I really like it - I'm coming from an 87 Acura Legend 5speed and think the Dakota is quicker. From other posts here most people noticed a difference in performance but not enough of a mpg loss to make it a tough decision for me.

Message: Excellent Choice hbiship!!
If you had to work as hard as I had to to get one - your efforts will be well worth it. I had to shop half a dozen different dealers to find one that looked hard enough to find one for me. He had to travel about 120 miles to get it, but he got my sale!
You have my respect finding a 3.92 with the Tow Package - I had no luck at all. I didn't want to order so I could take full advantage of the rebates. So far the standard rear works fine for my towing needs (less than 3,000 lbs).
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.

Message: Actually this truck was at the closest dealer (about a mile from my work in Dublin Cali - SF Bay area) to me and I went in about a month ago with an itch. I drove a 4x4 QC AT, but it was heavier than I wanted - remember I've been driving an 87 Legend 5speed for 6 years - and before that an 87 Mazda RC since new. The guy walked me around looking for a stick he thought they had (V6) just so I could get the idea of clutch and shifter action. Anyway they had this one stuck in the back yard. I drove it three times over about a 4 week period before driving it home last Sunday... Its rare because the normal folk don't want it. Of the 30 miles on it when I took delivery I'm sure 15+ are from my test drives. And yes I feel very lucky to have had it turn out the way it did - I even wanted white!
As for the rebates - My understanding is that you have to take delivery while they are still in effect. You can order a truck and if they have the rebate going when you sign on the dotted line and take the key you're good.

Message: I ordered mine exactly how I wanted it. I asked the dealer, what if the rebates go down? He said you are locked in to the rebate now. I said what if the rebates go up? He got a sheepish grin, said "you ask all the right questions" and said if it goes up before I take delivery I get that too!
I said sold!
Now that it's been within an hour of me for 3 weeks and still haven't taken delivery, I am hoping they drag their feet until June 1 to see what rebates do! Did anyone notice that Dodge now lists the quad cab rebate separately from the other daks?

Message: I called Dodge on the issue of rebates and ordering. They said, that if you put a deposit down when you ordered that you would get the rebates in effect at the time of order or, if the rebates got better, you would get the benefit of it. The same goes with the 7/100 warranty. If that ends before you get your vehicle, but you put down a deposit when you ordered, you get the warranty.
