I put some shelby stickers on mine just before I bagged it.
Does that count?

Stickers are things that stick. I stuck some shelby badges on it.
Then I bagged it. Air bag suspension. No springs. Lets me drop it to the ground. Low rider style, homey.

#1246 here. Initially, I was on the purist side of things, wanted to keep it all original, but I found myself feeling a twinge every time the A500 tranny (overdrive) burned up. This was long before TransGo had a kit to address certain issues, and there was no internet to search for answers. Nowadays, my Dak has a non-stock 360 Magnum, aftermarket A518 tranny. It's an ongoing thing.

The way I see it, Shelby would've done the same thing if they'd have let him. What's you experience with the transmission. I fried the OD several times....never even towed anything, just drove the heck out of it. The last time it fried, it was off warranty and was parked for several years. Since then, the fix has come in. The way I drive, I elected to move up to the bigger tranny. Did the same thing with a Charger years earlier, moved up from the 904 to the 727. For day-to-day hammering, I think it's a good move.

Iam on my third tranny. I had this one built and the guy said it was about the same as the 727. I dont know thats just what he says. Its holding up pretty good to this motor. I like you, drive mine hard. Except i have towed with mine. Tried to put a photo on here but couldnt.

I went with the Level 2 Viper A518 from PATC. The 518 is a revised, modified 727 from the get-go, with an overdrive added. The A500's that the Shelby came with can trace their roots to the 904. Ironically, the overdrive units for both transmissions are the same, but the 518 had better cooling, so it tended to hold up better. Add the TransGo or similar kit and the things perform better and live a lot longer. I did something else early on. The electric fans ran all the time. Being down south, they ran a lot even with the AC off, but when the relay fused, the things wouldn't shut off, even with the keys off. I had to disconnect the power. Then it took a week to get a new relay. I set out to change that. Nowadays, you can get a good electric fan relay in a box of Cracker Jacks, but back in the early 90's, not so common. Now, while the people at the drive-thrus always knew when I was in line, having a signature sound built around street-sweeper noisy fans wasn't for me. I now have a short spacer and a flex fan. It'll work as long as the engine is running. No burnt relays, no bad clutches. I'm perfectly happy giving up a few HP for rock solid reliability, and it's not much power with that lightweight setup. The original fans were good for one thing. People tend to wander around in parking lots and seem oblivious to the cars that are trying to navigate. I'd flip the AC on, the fans would kick in, and some half-asleep pedestrian would nearly jump out of their socks. Well, they shouldn't have been holding up traffic!

My nephew put a 727 in his shelby and had to beat the header on the right side to make it clear. Is the pan on the viper 518 tran the same as the 727? Do you run a carb.or inj.?I put a 8 3/4 rear end in mine in about 2000 the stock one just gave up.

The pan is the same, but the 518 is deeper, essentially what had been sold as a deep sump pan for the 727. Debating rear swap. The 8 3/4 is awesome, with more parts becoming available. However, the 9 1/4 (especially with c-clips eliminated) is a good option. Eventually, time and circumstance will decide for me. When I started all this, I was hell-bent on carbureted applications for simplicity, and there's just something about a big 4V that's missing in FI applications. I managed to get an early M1 single-plane intake (It was a crate engine take off, zero time and $100!). Edelbrock was still 3years away from releasing an Air-Gap for the Magnum, so that was pretty much the only choice that'd suit my cam choice. The early M1's were used for carbs and MPI. The locations for the injectors were there, but were not not drilled for them. That way, they could be added later. As the whole Magnum program opened up, Mopar Performance started making carb M1's and MPI M1's. Anyway, doing it this way followed my intention of being able to make an easy transition to MPI if I chose to do so later on. With the emissions cops, you never know when they'll decide to tighten up. Right now it's a non-issue, but I have gathered a full MPI harness, computer, along with all the other pieces to make a relatively painless switch to MPI, but for now it breathes through a Carter 750 Comp Series AFB.
Looking at header options lately. Just running the stock mainifolds and a single 3 inch pipe with a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler. Seems like most cam swaps involve something around .5" gross lift, mine's no different.
I got burned once with a serpentine belt that had me stranded only 3 miles from home, but late at night, and I'd left the cell phone at the house. The Jeep immediately started overheating since the water pump was essentially dead at that point. So, I know all the pundits praise the serpentine belt, but I swapped the Magnum front cover, water pump, etc for the LA style when swapping the cam. I had an alternator seize once with the multi-belt setup. The alt. belt snapped in short order. Pulled over, checked it out, continued on battery power, also at night, long before cell phones were a common thing. Everything else was still being driven by unaffected belts, including the water pump. Got home, no drama. Simplicity and reliability. If that serpentine belt breaks for whatever reason (road debris, seized accessory, not just age and neglect), you're stuck. I've seen mention of V-belts jumping at high speeds, but have yet to experience this. That being said, all the new stuff has the serpent, so it pays to have a cell phone and roadside assistance plan.
Eventually, I'll have this thing the way I want it. Too many other projects, so I'm constantly on and off with each one.

hey gen1 i bet you remember me, neways i get the last laugh, the questions i had asked you when trying to fix my shelby, where overlooked by a master mechanic and where fixed, hands on, the answers you gave where bogus, theres no simple way yo covert a stock shelby engine to carb. especially considering you need the ecu to shift your transmission, when it comes down to it you just BLOW ALOT OF HOT AIR, NONE,AND I MEAN NONE OF YOUR TIPS WHERE USEFUL BECAUSE YOUR SOME OLD AZZ MAN WHO DOESNT KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT,,, HEY HERES A TIP, IN THE FUTURE WHEN SOME ONE ASKS YOU A QUESTION THAT YOU CANT ANSWER JUST SAY HEY, I DONT KNOW, THATS WHAT A MAN WOULD DO, INSTEAD OF MISLEADING PEOPLE AND HAVING THEM SCREW UP THERE CAR DUDE. YOU DONT KNOW IT ALL AND KNOW ONE WOULD EXPECT YOU TOO, CAUSE THEN YOU WOULD BE A GOD, BUT YOUR NOT, AND YOU CAUSED ME TO BE MISLEAD, DONT DO IT TO OTHERS, BTW THE CONVERSATION IS OVER, CAUSE I SAID IT IS, I WONT READ WHAT YOU REPLY CAUSE IT WILL ONLY BE HOT AIR, AND I GET THE LAST LAUGH
