Subject: RE: are headers for my 318 worth it? IP: Logged
Message: The issue was in 1993. I loaned the issue out and never got it back. Mopar Action remembers, because they brought it up in their article in the latest Mopar Now! comparison test of a 4.7 vs. R/T. The real kicker to the article was the l'il Dak losing by only one length in the 1/4 to a 275hp/6spd Trans Am. You could buy 2 Daks then for what the T/A cost! The Mustang 5.0 GT 5-spd couldn't even get out of the 15sec. range.

Message: Are there any websites dedicated to dakotas other than this one? I have a 94 and it's tough finding custom parts for it. All everyone's got is the 97+ models.

Message: Thanks 01Motorsport, I got to see if I can find that issue somewhere. I have been looking for #'s on the 93' 2wd model for about a year and haven't been able to find any, except for what people post on drag truck. The #s you quote seem low since the #s I find are running in the mid 15s. I would love for it to be true thou since I have a 93' 2wd long bed. I have been beating the sh#t out of it so it gives me a reason to mod it. I just haven't decided what yet its between a pro charger or 66-1,68-1 turbo, hard choices?

Message: I put a set of Borla Headers and cat-back on my 98 318 and LOVED the change. Now I'm wondering if it's worth trying to find a y-pipe of larger diameter to lead into the Catalytic converter. I'm going to put on a 3" Cat (since that's what the cat-back is already), but the y-pipe is still stock between the headers and the converter. Where can I find one? and who makes them?

Message: All I'm looking for right now is a 3" y-pipe - at least from the Y-joint to the converter where the flow is the highest, and the pipe is still stock. The Borla headers fit to the stock Y-pipe, and it's a 3" system from the converter back... so that piece of stock pipe in the middle is the weak spot in my exhaust, now.

Message: Sam is it ok to use that ceramic header wrap on a set of JBA chrome headers to keep the heat down in the engine compartment or will it shorten the life of the headers. I bought these before the ceramic type came out.

Message: I am considering Headers for my '99 5.2
Dakota, I am looking to improve low to
mid range torque and power. I also want
to use existing cat and O2 set. Could I
get performance and fuel millage by
having only tuned Headers? If so, how
would I ever know who is on the same
page, and not just wanting to sell for the
sake of making a sale? I don't want to
race it, just want a better tuned truck
with usable torque and power.

Message: Brian B
the headers themselves will help fuel mileage and performance while using the existing cat and o2 sensors. i put a set of PaceSetter shorties on my dakota with the 5.9 and it helped a little. maybe 5-10 horse and 5-10 ft lbs of torque more. as for fuel mileage, MAYBE 2 or 3 more
