Message: What we are all trying to say is drop about 20 grand in it...LOL...not really but, really if you want power then you need to upgrade your interals and AL is very right every upgrade you do will make everything you didn't be stock and weak. So I would upgrade everything I could and do it the right way. There's the right way and then there's that other way and the other way will leave you stranded on the side of the road by that white line.

Message: that depends what you want to do with the truck. do you just want to race or will this still be a daily driver? for just a DD, buy a bolt-on kit for a few grand and be do with it. if it's to race i hope your wallet is deep.
fast, cheap or reliable. pick 2 because you can't have all 3.

Message: Sounds like a downer, but it's true. Do you wanna rebuild the truck 5 times, or once? You want the strongest foundation you can have to build on. The in-you-face magazines make it look as simple as changing a radiator cap, but with every mod, you get closer to exceeding the tolerances of the next weakest part. And face it, we're talking about cookie-cutter, production line parts. It's no fun when all you can brag about is putting in stronger u-joints, but ripping them out and having the driveshaft tear through the floorboards, well, you get the picture.

Message: Maybe before telling you to go ahead and do u-joints maybe I should tell you that I didn't and I have a 600 horse 408 stroker. I haven't had a driveshaft fly out...yet but, in time...who knows...lol. You learn from every mistake I know I have.

Message: thumper,
stronger U-joints and a driveshaft safety loop is cheap insurance compared to a wrecked truck you've invested $$$ in.
having a U-joint fail during a launch you'd simply push the truck aside, but having one fail at 100 MPH at the end of the quarter mile can mean disater.
Over the years I've seen a few cars skid out of control and crash when a front u-joint broke..
the tumbling driveshaft got stuck in the frame/ floorboard, locking up the rear axle/wheels at full speed sending the cars sideways in the blink of an eye.

Message: It gets 12mpg pretty good for that many horseys. I broke a driveline in my 67 chevy pickup doing 80 it broke it and sent 2 pieces up in the air it was about 6 seconds before I saw them come down in my rearveiw. Thats what happens when your 16 and you tell your buddie...hey look what my truck can do when I drop 2nd at 80...lol. It banged the underneath of the truck and broke the mufflers.

Message: There are levels of relativity things must be viewed through. The routine level of traction is an issue. On normal size radials, you probably won't hook up well enough to rip anything out. Take it to the track and bolt on some slicks, that's another matter.
