I've got 2700 miles on the truck. I've tracked the mileage on every tankful. I get 13.7 mpg, mixed city and highway. That beats the hell out of the 8 mpg I got with my 408 stroker in my Ram.

I have a 2002 with only 3000 km. I was getting 15.5 per imperial gallon. Since I installed a K&N air filter about 1000 kms ago I am now getting 17.5 mpg with a combination of town/hwy/towing 3500# trailer. Again that's per imperial gallon. Everything else is stock.
May get more after it's broken in. I hope to install a K&N FIPK whenever they get one on the market for the 4.7.

I check mine everytime I fill up. My truck has 43000Km on it and I get an average of around 500Km/tank. When I fill up, its usually around 65L ($40 at $0.68/L). Usually the little dinger comes on at around 440Km and I can squeeze another 50-60 out of it. Thats also very mixed driving..mostly highway but a lot of city also.

I have a 4.7L, auto, with the AWD (full time transfer case) with 3.55 LSD....probably the least economical 4.7L set up (only the above with the 3.92 would be worse)and I get 12.7 MPG in the city and 14 MPG mixed (no real freeway data, only have had my truck 6k miles).

Like DrDakota I have the AWD but I am getting 15 to 16 mpg around town and 19 to 21 on the road. I don't think the AWD is less fuel efficient than any ather 4wd. If you think about it all the same components are spinning whether 4wd is engaged or not. We've discussed this previously in this forum. More likely it is they style of driving. I can certainly lower those numbers by quicker launches, etc.

i have a 1998 5.2 4x4 club cab with a 4 sp. auto overdrive tranmission it gets the most insane, rediculous mpg's. i thought it would get better as it broke in, but no. i have tried going to smaller highway tread tires and got 1.5 more mpg. i drive 50/50 street and highway, and i get 10.5 mpg. if i go 60 mph on the highway without a/c it can get as high as 14.5, but no more EVER. i also have a 1999 ford F350 EXT CAB 4X4 AUTO TRANS. WITH A V-10 GAS ENGINE. it gets a little BETTER mpg's than the dak, and you could put the dakota in the back of this monster. i asked the service manager at my dealership about this and he agreed that it was bad and said he would have his people check it out. but then as he walked out to my truck and saw the v-8 badge on the fender he stopped in his tracks and said "oh there is the problem, thats all you will ever get out of the 5.2". i wouldnt mind it being this bad if it was at least fast, but if i had to run it up against any of the chevy or ford v-8's that i have bought for my company, it would get SMOKED. i also have 3 3/4 ton suburbans and 2 tahoes that all get much better mpg's than the dakota sport. the 02 suburban is a 3/4 ton with an auto and a v-8 that is nearly 500 cubic inches. i have talked to a couple of other dak v-8 owners at fuel stations (i spend alot of time there), and they said theirs are bad too but not quite as bad as mine. i dont know what to do with this truck, it looks better than anything out there, but man its a pile.

Damn! I got a 2001 4x4 3.9 V6 with Intense Performance intake and a flowmaster exhaust and some of you guys get better milage than me! I get 14-15 mpg if I'm easy on the throttle, If not its usually 13-14mpg. But maybe because I live in Hawaii and theres not that much highway driving. But eh, whatevahs.

Mark change types of gas. I keep track of every tank of gas I use and I have noticed a big difference. If I run BP I can get over 15 MPG but with some others I have gotten as low as 12 MPG

I'm looking at a 1998 Dodge Dakota with a 5.2 Liter V8.
What would this truck get for gas milage, and would it out run a 4.7 liter?

Gas milage will be similar; don't expect to outrun the 4.7.

(cant decide on V8 or V6)
Thanx!!
