if a programmer is available(i.e. Superships, etc...) is probably the only way.
i do have a couple of questions. humor me if you will.
where can you drive that fast and get away with it except on a racetrack? also so i can make sure i'm not in your way.
and
are you sure you're tired are rated for speeds above 98mph?

I know that Jegs sells a programer that allows you to take the speed limiter off of your truck... Basically he has tires from factory that were rated at 98 mph or so... thats what the limiters are for... for example mine is 114 because my tires were rated for 115... but anyways daddio... Not everyone lives in the city... where it's completely unsafe to get up to those speeds... but out in the country like where I'm from... A person can get their Dakota up over 100 mph before they even start coming up to the person next so you can see a great ways... And thats flat ground... no trees... nothing... and fast enough vehicles can easily get over 98 mph just on an entrance ramp to the interstate... Come on, you can't possibly tell me you never get on your truck to see what it'll do... that's like that damn corvette owner who never test the vette... they only baby it... It's a freakin Sports Car for gods sake... let it breathe like one every now and then... So Scott, go to Jegs or another parts store... and Daddio... don't assume everyone lives in the suburbs...

Usually, though not always, the lower speed limited Daks seem to be the Quad cabs - may have something to do with the 2 piece driveshafts as well. With some, you can turn the key to start as it aproaches the limiter to disable it; the dash will go dark.

Mine's a 4WD QuadCab.
Was about 120 stock.
Is 140+ now :p But never ever need to go that fast anymore.

My QC SLT was also ~120 stock form, maybe b/c I have the tire and handling pack, yes, it has a 2 piece drive shaft.
With the SuperChips though, it will exceed the speedo numbered area. I too never seem the need to go that fast anymore.
I have to agree with the beer guy on this one.
There are responsible places to go that fast, just maybe not in your area.

Maybe yours shuts off at 98mph because it is the newer style. I could not imagine trying to slow down one of those boats at 98mph.

i'm not condemning or condoning driving that fast. i just don't do it. i think the fastest i've had my truck up to was 85 merging onto the interstate. if i feel the need for speed, i'll make the hour drive to the strip.
i don't live in city. there are plenty of nice straight 2 lanes roads around here that i guess i could try that on but don't for 2 reasons.
1) the law. i can't afford to pay any more than i already do for insurance. (can you say teen driver living at home.)
2) the unexpected. you never know when a tire will blow, animal run out in front or careless driver pull out in front of you.

Live fast....die young. Isn't that what they used to say back in the day? My 2000 4.7 QC has gone 137 without batting an eyelash. I'm talking, two fingers on the wheel, where ever you point it.....it goes. I tell people all the time that that truck has no idea it is a truck.

How do you know that you are doing 120+? The speedometer stops at 120mph.

Shoe-I am one of a few but, I have a friend on the inside, who has clocked my truck on a desolate stretch of road with a radar gun. I maxed out at 137mph..if you must know. I also know guys (I am guilty of it myself.) who just so happen to go by one of the freestanding radar trailers.......yeah, you know what we end up doing in the wee hours of the morning... Some of us are not right in the head!!

there's actually an easier way than coming up with some story about radar guns.
use your tachometer. it's all ratios. if you know your highest rpm you went, your tire diameter, and your final drive ratio*, then it's only a small calculation.
i went 134 in my genIII when it had the V6 in it. 130 in my durango, and right up past 170 in our camaro (no, it's not stock).
* need to know your ring/pinion and gear ratio of the driven gear.

intensedak39-I grew up and went to school with the man who is now sheriff of my county. I have been towing for the county I have grown up in since I was 16.....seemings how my family business is a towing company/salvage yard/auto/motorcycle repair company. I don't have to make a "story" up. Sorry to bust your bubble. Anyway..... I would like yo know this formula of yours. i would also like to know where it allows for aerodynamics (Wind resistance) or terminal velocity. I would guess you wouldn't know about things like that......not being a skydiver and all.... It doesn't matter what altitude you jump out of a plane at....the human body reaches amax speed of 124mph, give or take due to terminal velocity. Aerodynamics affect vehicles in the same way. I had a mustang that should have been well capable of 200mph or better but, because of that little nasty thing called "resistence" It maxed out at about 180 or so. Gee, you think that's why the wind tunnel was invented??

Wylman - while you might have thought that Mustang should have been capable of 200, many of us with more years of experience already knew about wind resistance; even before you were old enough to be out of diapers. Wind resistance doesn't factor into that formula at all. Because the formula depends on rpm, and rpm in top gear will be limited by wind resistance, no wind tunnel is needed to do the figuring. Terminal velocity has to do with how fast an UNPOWERED object will fall through the air due to gravity; and is completely irrelevant. You'll do better on this site if you knock off the trash talking, as you've been warned before. That's hardly the way to request a mathematical formula from someone more knowledgable than you.

Not many people know how to do that Intense or even give a sh!t. They just think that, "Well I pegged out at 120 and I still had 500 RPMs to go, I had to be doing around 140." I do not discredit somebody who actually takes the time to figure it out, but a lot people just bullsh!t.

There is an easy way to tell your speed - $100 handheld Garmin GPS. It may be a little off the spedometer, but not much. Plus most will store your highest speed reached.
As somebody suggested above, the 98 speed cut-off has nothing to do with the newer model, my 2000 Sport QC 2wd has that cut-off as well. Some do, some don't, maybe it was the differential that made the difference (mine is the 3.55). Mine came with the hard to find goodyear 255/65R15 (not sure of speed rating) on 15" alloys. Pretty good handling for a truck (not sure if I have handling package?)
A long time back, somebody posted that turning the ignition switch to the position as if you are starting the motor will by-pass the speed limiter but also turn off the dash lights. Not sure if true, I never tried it. I'm assuming that you have to do it when the speed is reached and that there is protection to keep the starter from engaging? Not sure, it may not have been true.
What is this 2 piece driveshaft? I'm pretty sure mine has one driveshaft from transmission to differential.
