Subject: 383 stroker IP: Logged
Message: my buddy just yanked a gorgeous 383 stroker engine out of his hotrod SC chevy for a new bored over 350 he built...he told me hes letting it go for 1000-1200$ but would give me it for 900$!!
but how much would it cost to make this engine work with my 00' auto 4.7 4x4???
wouldnt a 383 stroker dak be incredible?! lol

chevy motor in a dodge, BLAH, i would only accept it if you swapped in some ford axels to complete it

Message: It would be cool but that sounds like way to much work and depending on the cam it sounds like a crappy daily driver. I have a 383 with a big cam in my firebird and I would never use it as a daily driver unless you like getting 13 MPG. If you want to play like that I would just get a second car/truck to play with, preferably a chevy.

383 mopar was NOT a stroked engine, it was a big block i think the same block as the 400/440?? im not sure though, gen1dak will be able to pipe in and give you far more info on it than you could ever need/use :)

Message: Yea but you said it came out of a chevy hotrod. I figured it was safe to assume it was a chevy. A chrysler would still be to much work for the gain and probably be a lousy daily driver. Even if it is a chrysler all the same things would have to be moddified. Mounts, fuel system, tach, exhaust, how to attach it, and a million other little problems that you wont even realise until you try it. There will be other problems trust me. This is a huge project. Not to be a jerk but if you haven't got a few years of experence swapping engines I wouldn't try it.

Message: 383 is also a very common stroker size for the Chevy 350. If you don't even know what you're looking at, your in way over your head for a swap like that.

i swapped a 95 v8 into my 1990
it took me from july to november, working on it almost every morning before work for about 4 hours
there is A LOT of crap involved, you wont realize until you get into it
and that was putting a dakota motor into a dakota

Message: If it were me I would just go buy an old S-10 and drop that in with a TH-350 trans. Now that sounds like a fun project. Should only take ya about 30-40 hrs. May need wider tires.

Thats a thinker and I'm sure I'll overlook something, but here's my
plan. Fabricate motor mounts. Make sure the engine is carbed and
tear out all the computer crap. Get an old chevy tranny that works
mechanically. That means you might need a custom driveshaft. So
yeah, lots of time and money. If you really want to know, call
Midwest Hybrid in Madison, WI. Their motto is "we put any engine
in any car"
Just sell it and build a 408 if you want a good stroker, heh.
