Message: You may have just discovered the Dakota gas tank baffle "klunk" when the tank is between 3/4 and full upon light acceleration. My '01 2wd does this very rarely, but my first response is to look at the gas guage, and sure enough... Hopefully your suspension is fine, bvan.

Message: A few years ago my 2000 4X4 would make a noise in the front end when turning.
The dealer said they lubricated the steering stops. You might want to call a dealership and ask though.
It did seem to help.

Message: bvan - so, you had your u-joints replaced also while the truck was in for the ball joint recall ? Or was there a u-joint recall that I didn't need for my shorter '00 RC ? Not sure what you mean there. Either way, that was a while ago; could be a ball joint.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: My 02 AWD QC has only "klunked" twice. First time was the ball joints, second was the steering rack.

Message: Check the upper control arm adjustment bolts... sometimes they come loose and you'll hear the control arm rock around during breaking or just from turning the wheel.... my 99 dakota did that when it got aligned after being hit... the body shop said they did an alignment on it but camber and caster was ok so they said they never touched the upper control arm bolts.... i looked and saw signs of loose rust from something rubbing... put a long breaker bar on them and tighten them up and noise was gone.....
