Message: thats not always the case for it to be bad... if you can take and spin the fan without feeling any drag then its bad.... if you take your fingures and hold the fan blade and have someone start the truck it should be pretty damn hard to hold the fan still... if you can then its bad... shuting the motor off the fan always spin for a second or two... most typical check is to spin the fan while the motor is off and it should only spin 1/4 turn to 1/2 turn with just a flick of the fingure....

Message: with the engine OFF. grab the fan and try to move it side to side. sometimes they will get play and if has has any play change it before the fan goes flying into the radiator.

Message: just grab the fan when its running!!! says the man who owns Three finger Louie's garage and band-aid store. I guess some people here never saw the Primitive Pete movies in shop class. he could fix anything with a vice-grip and screwdriver and usually lost an eye or finger while he was working. seriously Jim it used to be if the fan spun more than 3 times after the truck was turned off and it was hot the fan is not engaged and the clutch is faulty.

Message: I know a guy who almost lost 2 fingers by messing around the A/C compressor when the clutch kicked in while the engine was running. The dipstick was a college professor, no less. If Wylie Coyote is your hero, you can also try: a) trusting a floorjack or bumperjack (no stands) to save you b) jump starting a cracked battery c)weld a gasoline tank still attached to the vehicle d) hoping the emergency brake will hold the vehicle on a hill by itself. I could go on, but, just USE the space between your ears, people!

Message: You undougbtedly have a Electric fan with your 4.7.
Why, would you want that 'ol belt driven fan clutch?
Just put a 180degree T-stat, (same stat as a 5.2/5.9), for less than $8.
If I don't need mine in Hot SE Texas, why would you want yours.
It also increases HP/TQ slighlty- dyno proven.
