Subject: drop in performance IP: Logged
Message: ok on the way home from work i usually get on it on a little straight away to see what i can get and i used to get around 85-87 and now i only get around 80 and no codes have been tripped so i was wondering what would be the first thing to check and we replaced the plugs but that didnt help.... oh ya its a 2000 4x4 4.7 quadcab with flowmaster and k&n intake

Message: were you hauling something in the bed that day? when i bought my truck i could do 100-105 and now that i took my backseats out and filled up the back with stereo equip. and a toolbox on the back i can only hit 90 if im lucky. if i take it easy through the gears then floor it, 85..if i wind it up through all the gears alittle faster but not much. it doesnt make sense i know but its how it is. damn 3.9s

Message: check your throttle cable. see if it still floors the throttle when the pedal is floored.

Message: ya im pretty sure thats what im gonna try i was gonna get the local muffler shop to put one in can they tell before they do it if its bad or not or how does that work? also how much should it cost installed?

Message: The only way I know of to check the cat is to disconnect the exhaust infront of cat and do 2 runs. one disconnected and one connected. That should tell you the skinny. Did it that way with mine. Pretty loud lol.

Message: Muffler shop wont touch it unless it's BAD.
Maybe different gas quality, temperature, humidity.
FAN CLUTCH LOCKED UP with the temperature will do that! And that's a normal thing!
It's takes a lot of HP to turn that fan clutch especially when the RPM's get up there before each shift!

Message: this is true. was the a/c on? was the tailgate up instead of down? were a couple windows open. lets look at the drag on the vehicle. anything different than normal?

Message: nope ive done it multiple times with hardly any gas and the first time the tailgate was up and everything so i have no clue i want to try a new cat but in a previous post they stated that they wont put a new one in unless the old one is bad

True. But one of the symptoms of a bad cat is a drop in performance, especially high rpm performance.
Go to an independant shop. They will be happy to do it and still be within the boundries of the law.
