Message: There actually is no hurst shifter for the 2001+, you'll need to make a spacer.

Message: Are we talking about a spacer between the shifter unit and trans? If so, thick of a plate?

Message: Thx for the info. You would think that Hurst would change the shifter or add the adaptor. Not very flexable on their part. Guess I,ll make my own plate. FYI- Local truck store wants $289 to order in the shifter. Alittle high for a phone call.

Message: Years ago, someone posted instructions, using spacers, and or oversized nuts as spacers.
the plate may keep the noise down some in the cab.
this is one mod I haven't done YET, I think it just move to my short list.

Message: If you have a NV3500HD like me, you will need a thicker spacer than the 1/4 inch one. I made the 1/4 inch and still had binding problems, so I cut two cork-rubber (valve cover stock) gaskets for each side of the spacer. I could'nt tell you what the total compressed thickness is now, but it's more than 1/4 inch. Also, take some 5/16 steel stock to re-position the shifter away from the dash. you can also give it a little twist to better align the shifter to the drivers side. Message: To whom it may concern,
In order to move the shift knob closer to the steering wheel I used a 2" long by 7/8" square block of aluminum.
Measure for the location of the mounting holes & drill before making the diagonal cut.
I made a diagonal cut from one end to the other, the cut starting 1/4" in from the edge & ending 1/8" from the edge at the other end.
This will allow for 2 different settings when installed.
In order to move the shift knob closer to the seat, elongate the mounting holes in the Hurst shift lever.
The top hole needs to be elongated toward the dash & the bottom hole needs to be elongated toward the front seat, how much you elongate the holes will determine how far back you want the shift knob to be.
I have taken photo's of the new shifting positions while sitting in the drivers seat, using the radio as a reference point to take the photo's.
In addition to having an improved shifting position, there will be a great reduction in gear noise due to the aluminum block acting as an isolator.
I also used heavy duty grease on all moving parts.
