Engine starts but will not idle. Fault codes say
map sensor input below or above minimum
acceptable voltage (14) and an open or
shorted condition detected in the A/C clutch
relay circuit (33). However, there is no A/C
installed on vehicle. Is the 33 code just bogus
or could there be a short in the wiring harness
that causes both fault codes to be displayed,
and if so, will this cause the idling problem?

Message: I have a 1988 dakota. It also displays the "33" fault code, but it too has no A/C. I am not sure what this means??? Mine has trouble starting, especially in the cold.
Any ideas? What about fuel filters?

Open or shorted condition detected in the secondary air (air switching/aspirator
do you both have air pumps(belt driven),check the hoses for cracks, and all the valves. the cold start problem is in the switching solenoid
both problems could cause an ideling problem ,map and the air pump system.
the map sensor well cause the engine to idle bad ,back fire, stall and shaking

Message: by the way on the left facing the engine ,back by the tranny dip stick you well see a bank of solenoids, three ,in total or 2
any way its the center solenoid
you should have continuity on the solenoid if not move on to the switching valve on top of the pump

Message: I have a 99' dodge dakota extended cab sport V6. and i have had a problem with when putting it into neutral that sometimes it would die or when the RPm needle comes down to idle it doesn't, it just dies. Sometimes it will idle like nothing is wrong. i have had a code come up that said idle air control system with open circuit. But it has been to the shop and the mechanic couldn't find any thing when the code went off, but Now when it dies when i start it the check engine light comes on when i start it for about 3 to 4 seconds. Also here recently my ABS light doesn't come on like it should when i start my truck. If anyone could help please let me know. Thanks

Message: try replacing the bulb in the cluster for that ABS light first.
couple things you can do about the idle.clean the throttle body with some carb cleaner ,pay attention around the AIC motor port at the back of the throttle body.try that first and leave everything alone to see how you fare. give the engine some throttle while you clean that port, allow it to idle then throttle, back and forth like that while spraying the cleaner around it.

Message: Chris
I took off my throttle body and cleaned it all. But the IAS in the back of the TB had lots of carbon build up on it so I cleaned it off really good and in the spot where its fits. And i haven't had a problem sense. And thanks

Message: well in some cases a bad tps or a bad iac sensor can cause the computer to kick a false code for a problem that isnt true.... check the 2 sensors to make sure they reading correct.... the tps should be below 1volt with key one engine off. the IAC Valve might stuck shut... there cheap so i would just replace it... its heard to say how to check the iac valves cause most of them on scanners read in %, steps or mV or V. sometimes with the key on you can can take and tap on the IAC valve and they will jump open and allow the engine to idle once you start it...
