Message: I have a 03 dakota V6. I need to pull a 650lb motorcycle on a standard bike trailer from Columbia SC up to Lou, Ky. This is a one time pull. Can I do this with just a ball or do I need to have a hitch installed?

Message: Check you owners manual for towing. I have a '95 with V6 and using the bumper, as I recall I can tow 2000 lbs with a 200lb toungue load. The tongue load is the load applied at the bumper. Keep in mind you're towing not just the bike, but the trailer itself.
As a general rule, to determine the tongue weight, take 15% of the total weight to be towed.
ex: 650 lb motorcyle & 400 lb trailer = 1050 lbs
1050 lbs X 15% = 157.5 tongue weight.
