Subject: oil pressure problem IP: Logged
Message: my wifes 99' V6 started a pressure prob. the pressure is fine for about the first 10-15 mins of running time, than it begins to drop and does not come back up....especially on a "higher than idle" RPM.....than it will just drop to zero and gage lights come on and tapping begins. when this happened the engine was immediatley shut off. a few mins later u can start it again, than the whole scenario happens again. anything i can check/look for before bringing it to the "wrench" and speding a fortune?

Possible bad oil pump /pressure relief ?
Possible something ' worn ' / loose in motor ?
When oil warms up - it is almost like water !
When cold it is more like honey..

Message: your oil pickup screen may need cleaned. whats the mileage on this engine?
I have heard some people pulling their pan, to find all sorts of junk in there clogging the screen. maybe thats why it happens once in a while. once the engine oil warms up (and thins) the dirt/sludge/whatever, is getting sucked up against the screen.
then when you shut the engine off, the pump stops and the crap falls back into the oil pan! I would pull the oil pan for the heck of it. then you can see if thats the problem. if not, you can replace the oil pump while your in there. just make sure you secure the proper oil pan gasket before you begin work.
hope I helped

Message: it might be easier to get at, if its lifted. ramps or jackstands would help you alot.
