Message: Please help!! This is my problem. The other night I was out driving. I stopped and when I tried to start the truck again it would turn over but wouldn`t start. I got my father out of bed at 3 in the morning and he came out and figured out away to start it. We were unpluging some wire to the TB, and pluging it back in when started. What was happening was the injectors were stuck wide open and were flooding the truck.
So there we were on the side of the road and only like a half a mile to my mechanic so we decided to drive it there. No problems getting there but when we arrived the injector caught on fire. No big deal cause I have an extra carburator. But when we got the new on, it still does the same thing.

Did your [ replacement ] carb have all the

Bruce now carries the injectors for the older
throttle body injection setups
Check your TPS throttle position sensor center
wire and ground should be around 1 volt on the
tb injection if it is bad and reading high it will
flood the motor out
drivers side 3 wire plug

Message: 1989 Dakotas dont have carbs. They are Throttle Body Injection. This means they have throttle bodies.

Sounds like the map sensor.(on the front of TB)
Check if it has the little rubber elbow or the map sensor may even need to be replaced.
Also make sure vaccum is normal at that port to rule out a vaccum leak

Message: harris, i had the same problem not quite sure i have cured it yet. but i have done a few things that helped alot. first thing i did was change MAP sensor and O2 sensor..still ran rich, replaced every other sensor, but the one that seemed to help the most was the IAT (intake air temp) sensor..i believe the parts store calls it the intake air charge sensor. but anyway it was 20 bucks and helped.. i would also look into your timing chain if you are having bad problems and you havent changed it. good luck
