Subject: timing chain IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone here know how much a timing chain costs because i keep hearing a rattling noise when i start my truck up at idol but when i start driving the noise goes away and people on this site that were having the same problem said that it was a timing chain and i was just woundering how much on is going to cost and how hard is it to install

Message: ok i just found out that it is not my timing chain its my cat i read on here that the cat can make a rattling noise so i went out side and hit my cat with a hammer and it made a rattling noise

Message: well NOW it does...lol! (you could just smack it with your hand- as long as its not hot) Anyway, I just went through the same thing with my 03. I was surprised that it was the cat because I only had about 4500 miles on it. Just a bad cat i guess. Depending on your year/mileage, the cat could be covered under warranty (8yrs/80k I think). Otherwise, you could use this as an opportunity to go with a high flow cat or something else...

Message: Valve train clatter? That usually goes away after the engine warms up and the oil starts flowing.
