Subject: dual exhaust IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1989 3.9 and I want to put dual exhaust on it. I found a system in JC Whitney but it is for a 1990 and up. I was wondering if it would fit on my truck or if there is a system made for a 89 out there that you guys know of. Thanks for any info.

Message: Nope! There is a Y pipe after the cat and it goes to two straight pipes out the back around the spare tire.

Message: I had a gibsn on mine. You could look right through the muffler. It sounded like crap and ran like crap. I replaced it with a flowmaster 70. Sounds awsome and performance is much improved. I strongly recomend the flo 70.

Message: Great!! I`m glad to finally hear somebody that has dual exhaust ON A V6!!! I was harrassed pretty bad on this site for just mentioning the idea. But now that I hear its been done ,its nest on my to do list. I own the 89 dak aswell. There must be someone out there with objections to this but there all hiding like little biotches.
Whats the differences between the flowmaster 40 series and 70 series, anyone know?

Message: The gibson system I had was one muffer 1 in --> 2 out. There was a very noticable loss of low end power (plus unbearable interior drone). I went back to a one in --> one out. The low end is better than it was stock.
The major difference between the 40 series and 70 series flowmaster is how loud they are inside and outside the cab. The 70 has a nice deep sound outside with little noise inside. Interior level does increase while accelerating but goes away almost completely when cruising. Sounds great compared to the last system I had.

Message: I went with the Ravin 77 from Midas (did an excellent job by the way). I was contemplating the dual (one in - two out) muffler, but remembered that the lack of backpressure would kill any low end performance - and that I have a 3.9l, so a single did me fine. The Ravin 77 needed to go from 2.5" to 3" on the "in" side and then 3" all the way back. It was friggin loud at the beginning, and a little "ricey" when cruzin at highway speed, but over a few weeks, it has quiteted down to a nice throaty rumble, less ricey sound. Low end performance has improved quite noticeably, as displayed by the rear tires having a little less tread (ha). It was expensive, but I believe well worth it. I think the Ravin 77 is similar to the Flowmaster 70.
By the way, with the muffler and my home-brew intake I am averaging about 27 MPG (city driving) - it is way better than the wife's Civic
