Subject: Mil light(emmissions) IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 v6 dodge dakota and the mil light is on I checked the light according to the manual. It says that the truck is ready for an emmissions check. By state law I don't need one for another two years. Does someone know how I can turn the light off without taking it somewhere.

Message: It probably means your truck is having a problem putting out the proper emissions and you need to fix it...last I knew they don't warn you to say it needs an emissions check or it's due for an oil change, etc (unless there is something wrong that's related).

Message: If that light is really what it is for, then that is the most retarded
thing I ever heard of. Are you absolutely sure that is what that
light is for? I have a friend with a newer Chevy truck and he has
an emissions light of some kind. I helped him shut it off by
turning the key to run and tapping the gas three times (this was
in a Chilton manual). I'm sure that's nothing like your procedure
but what a pain to figure out. You know what I'd do? I'd go out
and get a shop manual on the truck. Or just go read one in the
auto store if it's not wrapped. See if there is any mention of this
toward the front of the book.

Message: It may be retarder but it is in the owners manual. I did what it told me and it said it was due for an emmisions test and to take it to an IM center. I don't have to have an emmisions test on the truck until 2006. I guess I will call the dealer on tuesday and find out what to do. Thanks
