Message: I pulled my plugs out over the weekend to see how they are burning and this is what they look like. Most of them have a white color to them. that would be too hot right? I'm running AP3923's and they were gapped at .45. I put them back to .40 and will do a plug check in a few days. the regular 3923's run good too and have a nice brown color but they are kinda sluggish from dead stop. anyone let me know what plugs they are running and what mods they have done. I've got all the mods posted except bigger throttle body and ignition upgrade. thanks

Message: You went the wrong way!!! Your suppost to open up the gap when they're running hot... SO UP TO .050" ; )) When you close them you make them run hotter, because it takes even less energy to transfer the spark across the gap... Larry can explain everything better, so I'll let him fill you in, because he is far superior on all of the Dakota knowledge...

Message: The AP plugs with a stock ign will run from
.040 to .045
With the MSD Box and coil
.050 to .060
You need to see what works for you all trucks run
a little diff.
After port matching the manifold I had to drop
back to .058, .060 was a just a very light tan
at .058 the tan color is more visualy noticeable
and what you want.
This tells me the port match intake to head is
giving me a bigger charge in the cyls and flows
better, before the port work was done they ran
a perfict tan at .060. This just shows you how
doing mods can change things
Plugs are funny animals when you begain to open
the gap they will cool down a little untill a
point is reached than the spark will begain to
heat up again.

Message: I pulled a plug, checked the plug closest to the front on drivers side. It still has a white look to it. they are gapped at .040 right now, they were white looking at .045 too. so which way do i go now?

Message: i put ap3923s in my truck. gapped at factory spec .040 and pinged worse. regapped at .045, got rid of most of the ping.
1k miles later i did my tuneup which included new taylor 8mm wires. ping returned. regapped to .040 last week, and after 200 or so miles the ping seems to be less than ever before.
heh. of course now that i typed that, it'll prolly start pinging again. lol.

Message: do the timing advance, my ping is gone and has not returned since. you can not run factory plugs with that mod though. regardless of how i gap, i still have no ping. I put JBA wires on, for the price they seem decent and my highway mileage has improved significantly.
