First of all I have a high pitched whistle type sound coming from the rear differential of my 93 Dakota V6 5spd. I was wondering if changing the fluid might solve the problem. I bought the truck a few years ago with 150K on it. I put a new motor in but the trans and rear are original. There is now almost 200K on the truck. I don't know when/if the trans or rear fluids were changed before I bought it, and I have not changed them. Could this be my problem? Also, what fluids would be needed in this application. I have the 8.25 open rear w/ 3.23 gears (will be switching to 3.9posi in the future, but not yet). The transmission is the AX-15 manual Trans. I would like to get all synthetic fluids. Could you let me know which fluids I need for this?

Thanks for your help.

I'm not Steve ( the amsoil man ), but I can tell you at or around how much fluid it takes and what kind to use...

To start with Amsoil is always the best oil of choice to use...

Both the AX-15 and the rearend use 75-90 weight gear oil... I think the rear end in mine took 3 quarts (might want to get 4 though and a new rubber plug and 1 tube of the gear lube sealant from the local dodge place), and the tranny took a touch over 4 quarts (again might want to get 5)...

Steve can tell you Exactly how mugh they take, but I think that's how much I used when I changed the fluids in mine...

Hope this will help a little bit until Steve can get back with you...

Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Lube
IP: Logged

Message:

FYI - AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Lube (Product Code TGR), is our latest introduction to the Amsoil line up, and is our premium top of the line gear lube.

Friction Reduction / Better Power Transfer / Heat Control / Fuel Economy

__________ __________

High quality gear oils must lubricate, cool and protect geared systems. They must also carry damaging wear debris away from contact zones and muffle the sound of gear operation. Commonly used in differential gears and standard transmission applications in commercial and passenger vehicles, as well as a variety of industrial machinery, gear oils must offer extreme temperature and pressure protection in order to prevent wear, pitting, spalling, scoring, scuffing and other types of damage that result in equipment failure and downtime. Protection against oxidation, thermal degradation, rust, copper corrosion and foaming is also important.

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Lube delivers unbeatable protection and fuel economy. Amsoil Synthetic Gear Lube has the film strength required to deliver all the protection heavy-duty and high-stress applications need in a fuel-saving viscosity grade. AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Lube is recommended for use in all passenger vehicles, commercial trucks and race vehicles.
__________________________________________________

High Load and Extreme Pressure Performance

The superior film strength of its synthetic basestock ensures protection from wear for gears operating with full-film lubrication. Top-quality extreme pressure agents ensure protection from wear for gears operating without full-film lubrication.

High Temperature Performance

Offers thermal stability and durability, oxidation resistance and shear stability required for optimal protection.

Low Temperature Protection

Ideally suited for low temperature applications. Its low temperature fluidity ensures excellent low temperature performance, protection and fuel economy.

Seal Compatibility and Rust and Foam Inhibition

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Gear Lube forms a barrier on gear surfaces that seals out water to inhibit rust and corrosion. Foam inhibitors ensure protection in conditions that favor lubricant foaming and consequent metal-to-metal contact and wear.

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Gear Lube has been shown to help seals perform better and last longer.

hey steven, i have a quick question for you.

can I use amsoil atf fluid for my power steering fluid?
it says in the online store on your site, that power steering fluid is not available through amsoil. I changed my p/s fluid a while back, with prestone power steering fluid.
it quieted it down a little, but i want to use amsoil!!! if it quiets my p/s pump down as much as it did my engine, I would be one happy dak owner :-)

thanks!!

Amsoil Power Steering Fluid = Synthetic ATF
IP: Logged

Message:

Dan,

More information ... Rack-and-Pinion Steering (found in Dodge Dakota's) in most cases will last longer when using Synthetic ATF. Synthetic ATF and Power Steering Fluid are the same except that ATF has red dye. ATF is "red" so that if you have a leak you will know it is the transmission and not the engine. Simple isn't it !?! The same reason dye is used in your coolant, etc. Helps to identify the problem quickly.

MOBIL 1 API certified & Warranty approved!
amsoil is neither!

goes to show just how full of sh1t your local scamsoil spamming idiot is (he also need to learn how to spell)

in our service department you will find Mobil 1
you will NOT however find any amsoil products!
why? quick easy answer
for warranty approval you need to use a API certified oil

while amsoil claims they "meet and exceed" API standards fact is they don't!
if their statement was true then you can bet
your last dollar they would go and get API certified!

Dodge requires use of API certified oil

Heck every car/truck maker i have ever seen requires it
not using what they say to use for motor oil?
then they do not have to and will not honor your warranty

what the hell does everyone think the reason is amsoil couldnt get API certified?
yes to much zinc
and the reason they use so much of it is because its cheap and makes a low grade oil slippery
and they never fixed the issue
because they couldnt
they have to keep the product cheap
do you know how many people get a % of every bottle you buy????

the old saying you get what you pay for comes into play here

you are not getting a quality product
you are just paying a % into multiple people in their pyramid scheme

Q: AMSOIL will be using a different formula for its XL-7500 Motor Oils. Why did AMSOIL change the formula?

A: Our XL-7500 oils are the oils of choice in the retail oil change market, and primarily because of warranty concerns the customers in this market require API-certified oils. In order to obtain API SL/ILSAC GF-3 certification and still remain cost-competitive with the other oils sold at retail oil change outlets, we had to change to Group III basestocks. To obtain API certification with our top tier basestocks would have priced our Dealers out of the market.

Gee kinda funny when steve put everyone down for using M1 cause in his words "its group 3 not real syn"

but when amsoil is group 3 it somehow becomes "True Syn Oil" LOL
