Subject: more power for cheap? IP: Logged
Message: i was wondering what i could do to my 87 3.9 to get more power / better fuel economy out of it for fairly cheap.
right now i have a 14x3" holley open element air cleaner (soon to be replaced by a K&N), and a flowmaster 40 series on it.
what else can i do to it to get more power and better gas milage?
- what plugs are wires are the best to run?
- would a hotter coil benefit me any?
- would advancing the timing have any benefits?
- how bout a hi-flow cat?
- anything else?
i plan on swappin the 3.9 for a 318 which im goin to build over the next year, and swap in next summer. so i dont want to invest too much into the 3.9. i just need to get a little more power outta it b/c im liftin it and puttin 32" tires on it and i need the xtra power.
any help is good.
thanks

Message: What is rear axle ratio ?
3.92 = good for the 3.9L
although you might want 3.55 for the 5.2/318
especially the way gas is going UP.. ??
