I have a 93 2WD 5spd. It has the 3.23 Open diff. I need to get my power to the ground, I was wondering about the effects of a 3.55 and a 3.91? What kind of 1/4 mile improvments will they have, what kind of top speed affects and what kind of gas mileage affects.
Thanks for the help.

should improve 1/4
Potential lower Max speed , but motor didn't have
HP to get to your present Max speed potential
anyway .
3.55 could actually improve mpg , depending on how you drive.
3.91 would decrease mpg , but give super towing
capabilities..

Right now I have topped out 126, there was more power, but no road left. I would like to be able to keep 100+ on the top end. Will 3.90's keepp that?

Yes it may even top out higher because it will
be higher up in to the power band

4000 rpm should be around 110

there is virtualy no diff on ileage unless you
nail it every time you take off, I have even
seen trucks go from 3.55 to 3.91 with the V6 and
get better gas mileage

I upgraded my 3.55 to 3.91 and have not noticed any MPG loss over the last three tanks of gas.

Does anyone know the formula for calculating a new gear ratio after installing a new set of rear tires off the top of their head???? What does dropping 3.5 inches diameter make the new ratio?? I'd really like to know!

Goto www.yahoo.com or another search engine and type gear ratio calculator, I did this a while back and found a few sites that will do the math for you.

It will be off, since with a 3.9 gear ratio you'll be turning a little faster at the same highway speed. Will it matter? 2200 RPMs vs 2000 would be representative. So it will read higher than what you're going by nearly 10%. At 70 it will read about 77.

What if my stock tires were 195/75-15 and I currently have 215/60-15, right now my speedometer is slow, but I don't know how slow. Do you think it will even out?
