Subject: Timing gears ? IP: Logged
Message: Do they make timing gears to take the place of the timing chain ? If so what would be the + or - of using the gears? Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance for the info.
P.S. This is only my second time posting, but this site has helped me many times with different questions I have had.
Thanks, Jeff

Message: Yes. On the plus side, they last forever, and remain very accurate. They make more noise, which some like.
Negatives? Cost. They make more noise, which some don't like.
Summit and Mancini Racing carry these, as well as others.

Message: I, and I'm sure anyone else, can hear a gear drive a block away (or more). It's the "poor man's blower" you get the roots-style sound without any of the performance. When I was growing up people would get a Pete Jackson gear drive and put on a non- functional scoop to make everyone think they were the 5hit.

Message: Seems like it's Pete Jackson that now offers a quiet gear set. They'll still make some noise, but not like the rough cut gears. I imagine you'd still hear them if you tried. Depends. An example would be the Harley Evolution engine circa 1984-2000ish, and the basic design is still in production in various sizes. Anyway, these ALL have gear drives, but they're the quiet style. Can you hear them? Yes, but unless you're trying to, all you notice is the exhaust note. The cars have bigger gears, but I don't think the quiet cut style would be bad at all.

Message: hey gen1dak I did a search for pete jackson gear drives and found exactly what you were talking about, however I could not find one for the 3.9 or the 5.2. If you have info where I can find these I would appreciate it.
Thanks again 91dak-jeff
