Subject: Considering selling my dak...opinions? IP: Logged
Message: I'm strongly considering getting rid of the dak... don't get me wrong, it's a great truck, but I'm not sure it's what I can afford at the moment. Reason being...I need a lot of work done to it, and I don't have the cash. Transmission may be going out...if it's not a solenoid/sensor, that's gonna be a small fortune. Plus I need to have the side redone from when I wrecked it last year. That's gonna be around $2500 for it to be done right. Plus I got another nice small dent where I hit the deer (or maybe it hit me...lol...it's right below my driver's side v6 emblem) and I need that fixed before it rusts out (same with the bedside that needs redone...the guys who just recently fixed the dent in the other side say it's gonna rust out in the future). Anyway...
I'm considering getting a jeep wrangler...4.0L 6 cylinder w/ a 5 speed and 4wd. I want something smaller that sits up high like a truck and I want something more maneuverable than a 2wd dak in the snow. My dad thinks I'm crazy cuz of how noisy they are on the highway, but that isn't important to me. Otherwise, why would I want a 40 series flowmaster on my truck? lol. I was just wondering what you all's opinions are on the jeeps? Well...not so much opinions, but if there's any common problems with them that would make me change my mind (i.e. the GM's with that horrible piston slap). If I don't get a jeep, I'll be looking into either a 4wd v8 dakota or a 4wd ram, but honestly, I'd rather go smaller. Then again... at the rate gas prices are shooting up, maybe I should just buy a friggin hybrid.
I'm also considering selling my four-wheeler. If I do that, I'll probably buy a motorcycle with that money (and a lil help from my dad). More than likely a sportbike...gotta love the crotch rockets while I'm young, stupid, and just asking to kill myself at 140+ mph.
Oh yeah... what do you all think my truck is worth? The only dents remaining are the deer "ding" under the v6 emblem and the passenger door ding. Although like I mentioned above, one side needs redone in the future or it'll rust out and my transmission needs work...may be a sensor/solenoid or just requiring band adjustment and a new fluid/filter. Here's the details on it though...

Sorry for the long-winded post but I'm sick and couldn't sleep so I figured I'd post while I was wasting time til I need to be up for school. =P

Message: talking about some that can move quicker then the kota? i dont think a jeep falls into that catagory cause of the wheel base on them.
have known a few people to roll them over trying to move quickly.
had a friend that owned a jeep shop he spent more time fixing ones people rolled then he did putting aftermarket thing on them or at least around here in SC he did

Message: HOLD ON!!
You have a nice truck there, and while I agree with you on the traction problems, I can't see anyone being more happy with a jeep than one of our dakotas.
The Jeep is a great second vehicle, you know, one for slopping around in the woods with or recreational use, but as a DAILY DRIVER? The Jeep is slow, noisy, cold, gas guzzleing and expensive to own. I've got a 4x4 V6 w/ 5spd, had it since it was new in 1992. It's been warm in winter cool in summer and the cheapest vehicle I've ever owned.
The engines are as close to bullet proof as your going to get and these older trucks work like hell and never complain. That's why dodge gave us these new engines and drivetrains. So they could break down on a more regular basis.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is as a day in day out vehicle the dakota has it hands down over the jeep. The only thing we lose is the top down thrill.

Message: I would not get a Wrangler also because of the noise. The noise in them are a lot different than exhaust noise. Drive 200 miles with your windows down at 70 mph, and you will know what I mean.
If I were you, I would look at a late 90's cherokee, if you wanted a jeep. They have the same engine, but area little longer, and therefore more capable as far as towing and hauling things goes. They are a breeze to park,so even though they are a little larger than the wrangler, they won't feel big. Mine could turn around almost as well as our old civic.

Message: Hmmm...thanks for the opinions guys. From what I can tell, Jeep = bad idea. lol. I'll prolly either start looking into another truck (v8 dak 4x4 or 4x4 ram) or just start putting money into fixing my current truck up.
My friend's got a jeep wrangler that they use for mudding around on his grandpa's property...I'm gonna see if he'll let me borrow it for a day so I can just cruise around and see how well I like it just to be sure. It's a 4 cylinder though so it won't be like comparing it to the 6.
Thanks for the feedback,
Josh
