Subject: Starting Problems IP: Logged
Message: I need help with my '96 Dakota. When I go to start it I turn the ignition and I get a single click. I try it 2 more times and nothing. On the fourth time it starts right up. The battery is new and has been checked and it's good. Any suggestions?

Message: have your starter checked, as well as check for loose or corroded terminals. You might want to check your relay although when relays go they normally just go, so check your starter first.

Message: Brent, you may have a problem with the starter, but before you check that test your relays. Look in the power distribution center box. It's located on the driver's side, on the firewall. Take the starter relay out and replace it with one of the other relays. Try to start the truck, if this works you know what you need. If not check the starter.
lol, Tom.

Message: Yep, your starter is going out. My 97 Dak did that for about 3 months before I gave up and replaced the starter.
