Subject: mod intake manifold IP: Logged
Message: I will be doing an intake manifold this weekend
and will post some pics
this will be a 92 to 95 EGR type manifold
shortening runners, removing divider and matching
the ports.
I will also contact Mark when I post it so he can
also add it to the how to section of this site

Message: hey larry did you do the intake manifold yet? and if so do you have any pics? i gasket matched mine and now im looking to cut the divider down and cut the runners, what are you using to cut down the runners and divider? i used a dremel for ports, but if i were goin to use the dremel for the runners and divider i wouldturn 60 before i was done. any faster ways?

I've been reading your posts now for the past couple of weeks. You have more knowledge on the dakota than most of the mechanics around here do!
I've just gotten a used manifold that I was planning on modofying but I'm going to wait for your post. Basically because I've never done this before.
You have made it a lot easier for some of us to do things to our trucks that I think we were afraid to do before. Probably more important is the amount of money you have saved us so we can do even more modifications.
This may just be my .02 but I for one am truly thankful for your willingness to share this knowledge with us.

a die grinder is kinda like the dremel... but with bigger balls. It runs off of an air compressor and works about five times as fast as the dremel. It was really good for removing material. After i used it, i used the dremel to shape things up a bit... but then my dremel broke

Message: Did the manifold but could not get any pics my
notebook died.

It makes a nice improvement than I painted it
street hemi orange looks good with the chrome
valve covers
sawsall also removes things very fast but we used
a bridgeport mill
It changed the exhaust tone at crusing speed
sounds nice and lots of low end.
The worst part on these manifolds it at the gaskit
flange we instaled the injector and the fan
pattern was hitting the casting, you could even
see where the tool they used to machine the
injector hole hit this overhang in the port.
On the top, just use 3 bolts and washers tighten
lightly to hold gaskit in place and take out the
overhang at the top of the port and gasket match
this overhang will also cause turbulance and
restrict flow
Very nice improvement in performance I am pissed
that I could not get any pics, oh well next one
I need a new notebook anyway this one is like 8
years old and is used a lot in the shop to tune
some of the fuel and timing controlers

Message: as u guys know i have a 97, does it matter if i have that egr tube? or can i cut it compleatly out? i got a manifold from a junkyard and it has the egr tube in it, not sure if the one thats on the truck now has. any ideas on if i can cut it compleatly out or if i should do sumthing else

Message: cut it out and get a piece of metal, shape it, drill holes in it, and use it to cover the egr port on the outside of the manifold.

Intense, are you saying to remove the egr tube enirely? I thought this couldn't be done on the 92-95 Dakotas? don't we have to use the EGR, won't this effect the computer to throw a code?
I'm sorry I only have questions but it seems that I keep getting conflicting reports on this. Also do you think it would help to glass bead the inside of the manifold to smooth it out and build up some of the low spots with epoxy?

Message: i was telling 97slow to do that. He has a non egr motor and is gonna be using a modded egr manifold. Well, he doesnt need it so he just needs to block it off. As far as i am concerned... no one needs EGR. I have never used one, even on my cars that came with em. And i have been told by an inspection tech that they dont even do anything except raise your intake temp.
