Subject: Horrible Mileage! IP: Logged
Message: Lately my 93 3.9L v6 ext cab has only been
getting around 200 miles to a 15gal tank
which is less then 13mpg! I have been taking
it rather easy on the gas and even before
when i was stomping it down I would still
get better gas mileage then I am now.
My guess is that the 02 sensors need to be
changed because the lady who had it before me
I dont think she ever changed them and now
the truck has 130,000 miles on it with the
original o2's! What else should I be checking?

Message: The 93 only has 1 o2 sensor and yes change it
way overdo 60,000 recomended and will effect
gas mileage a lot.
Around $60 at Autozone made by Bosch a good part
Another thing on the 93 is the EGR Valve and
transducer they go bad
Checker Auto, Parts America handles the neihof
ignitions parts and a whole new unit transducer
and valve are only around $50
EGR Valves seam to start acting up between 80,000
to 100,000 its time to just replace the thing
A good tune up will also help, new plugs cap and
rotor
Napa MO26 & MO28 cap and rotor cap has solid brass
incerts and will transfer more volts to the plugs
around $15
Also watch the cat at that age and miles sometimes
they fall apart and plug up the exhaust
Do those things and you should have a good running
truck

Message: Thanks Larry,
When I go in for my next oil change here shortly
I will have them change my oxygen sensor and all
new plugs, cap, rotor as well as the EGR valve w/
transducer.
Would it be a good idea to reset the PCM after
all this is done?

Message: No need for a hard reset
It will learn, it may run strange at first after
50 miles that will start to clear up, after 2 to
300 miles they have a good learn and will start
to run very good.
