Subject: vacuumn advance distributor IP: Logged
Message: i have a 87 dak with the 3.9 and had the crappy spark control computer. but i bought the electronic ignition conversion kit. consisiting of the ecu, wiring harness, ballast resistor, and vacuumn advance distributor for a 318.
i took the distributor cap for the v6 and lined it up with where the spring clips hold down the cap to the 318 distributor. used a file to notch where the locating tab is on the 318 distrbutor.
made a custom reluctor for the magnetic pickup.
and thats it. install as instructed by the manual contained with the conversion kit.
if anybody wants pictures e-mail me brandou10l@msn.com. or if u want to try this urself and need a reluctor made.

Message: I've bben wanting to do something like that for a while. Is there a chance that you could email me some pics of what you did and how you did it. I hate the EFI on the engine now I want to swap it over to a 4bbl carb. My e mail is emt_156@yahoo.com.

Message: i did this a few yrs back on a 87,i used the relector out of a slanted 6,i could,nt use the
vaccuum advance because it made my truck spark knock and i recurved the dist, put the performance springs in.also used the tin plate from the 3.9 dist that has the ear[tab]for the dist cap on the 318 dist and did away with vaccuum advance.
but i used a used 318 dist, box and wiring from a car[just because i,m cheap and no one could tell me if this would work]so i did my own experiment.
worked fine,good power,about the same mileage 16-18 with 4x4
total cost less then $50,wiring diagrams in most mopar books or maybe Brandon can post or email them

Message: How is this working? is there a milage/power improvement? does it affect the converter lock up? I was planning to do the same.

Message: so far its been working good. although i had to buy a reluctor for a slant 6. the one i made magnetized and wouldnt trigger the ign.
i cant say if it has been a mpg improvment. i am still tuning the 4bbl. it definetly has been a performance improvement. if u are switching to a carb its definetly the easiest route to go. id get a vacumn distributor and a capacitve discharge ignition. like msd or accel. id get a rev limiter also. as far as the converter goes i dont know, i have a 5spd. ill let u know my fuel mpg in a week or so i still have some tuning on the 4bbl to do

Message: Mine is an 87 carbed I have a jacobs ign. which has worked very well. I just put in a 2.5" exhaust which seems to help a lot. What kind of material did u make the reluctor out of?
