Subject: How much engine oil? IP: Logged
Message: My dakota is up for it's first oil change and I need to know how much the 3.9 needs before I go to get some. Thanks for the help, I would have looked in the owners manual but I don't have one.

Message: per my haynes repair book 98-99 durango and 97-99 dakota the 3.9 takes 4 quarts mine usually takes just a little over 4 quarts (because of the filter) just keep a watchful eye on the dipstick add about 4 quarts and wait about 5 mins to iet the oil drain into the pan then recheck
just my 2 cents

Message: Yeah... my 98 gets right in the middle of the "full" zone on the dipstick if I put in exactly 4 quarts (w/ filter change).

Message: 4.25 to 4.5 on most depending on what filter you
use, I always use the longer one for the older 318
the screw right on but have more surface area and
capasity to hold more dirt
