Subject: Larry, Wadak, MSD 6a question for my 88 IP: Logged
Message: Trying to install ignition and kinda stuck.
On connecting my distributor pickup. Diagram shows two wires from chrysler module (to msd green & violet) Mine has three wires going into the plug/module, black w white stripes orange and white w black stripes. How do we wire it?

exsisting coil wires
1 on off a steady voltage while cranking
2 signal a pulsing voltage while cranking
and than run the ornge and black back to coil
and the big red to 12 volt and big black to ground

Larry, may sound dumb, but do you mean, we don't hook up to the distributor/hall effect pick up at all wires at all? Use both the old coil wires and they connect to the msd purple and green? Or we don't use msd purple & green?
1 being old coil pos
2 being old coil neg.

Message: One thing I learned is the MSD instructions aren't quite right for the GenI's. It's more of a mix between the two diagrams they give you for Chryslers, isn't Larry.
Well, MSD's in and working pretty darn good. Have more low end. Didn't even gas it hard and got a little chirp when I took off. Still smiling when I think about it, LOL!
One thing tho, it doesn't quite seem to have the umpff it should above 40-50 mph, or when just cruising along seemed just a little rough to me. Have plugs gapped at 45 deg. New plug wires are all on tight, and everything is wired good and up out of the way, etc. Should I try a differant gap or give it a hundred or two to adjust first?
What do you's think?

red to steady volt coil wire
white to signal pulsing wire
sounds like you got it right the other way is for
non computer vehicles.
Take a look at your plugs after about 50 to 100
miles you may need to open the gap more

Yes it will work on your 2001 same way using the
2 exsisting coil wires, 12 volt and ground
But on the 01 you would also need the tach
adapter or it will throw a mil light for coil circuit

How are you? How's everything.
Used same plugs I had just put in last month, Autolight AP65's gapped at 45, same cap and rotor I put in last month, from our local Car Quest. They look brand new yet, couldn't tell by looking at them they had been used at all. Guess it's cause of the new distrib. I'll get better ones in a few months, unless of couse, dak doesn't smooth out all the way after 100 miles.
Yes, went pretty good considering I had forgotten to print out the post from a few weeks ago when you guys were telling me about the install process.
Ahhhh, I love my Dak even more!!! Went for another test drive after above posts. Seemed to run a bit smoother than first run. Damn my right foot has gotten heavyer. Truck is amost "too fun" to drive now. Hopefully my new tires will last for at least a year but I don't know, LOL. Seriously, it is hard to keep your foot out of it taking off especially. Acceleration is better also, but that wasn't to bad before.
Also, took the heater blower motor out this evening...finally. It's shot! Larrry, do you hear that.
Blower would run with direct connection, but would stop so fast you'd get whiplash just from watching it. I'm picking one up tomorrow. So I'll finally have real heat & if we get more snow I can go play.
Also, got new headlight doors I needed, repainted them and the grill gloss black, put them back on (still have to do bumpers and underneath truck). Finally put my good stereo in it and vent visors and tail light covers are on. Oh yeah, and removed that knee knocking SOB trailer hitch. Hopefully next month will get the exhaust finished up. That isn't a priority, since the cops around here don't bother me.

Tomorrow, I'm going to buy MSD 6a (model #6200), blaster SS and tach adapter/splitter for my 2001. I need help on the installation. If it's not too much, could you please tell me the exact date when the installation process was last posted so I can look it up. I look and look for this post but with no luck.

Diane you should open the gap on the pluges try
.055 to .060 and you will really feel the gains
of the MSD
Moe get a set of Autolight AP3923 and gap at .060
on the mag engine they run great, i tried stock
heat range on the stock motor I am running now
and with the MSD they ran to hot

Quick information regarding MODIFICATION already installed on my V6 2001: F&B 48mm throttle body, JBA header, Magnaflow single output exhaust, Airaid intake system, JetII computer tuning, Autolite AP5224 (gapped @ .045 per your recommendation), M026 and M028 cap and rotor from NAPA and MSD 8.5mm wires.
Larry, should I change Spar Plugs to AP3923 and the gap to .060 as you stated?
Just purchased MSD 6A (model 6200) and will buy the Blaster SS coil and Tach adapter (as you recommended) to the other store. Is it worth adding these items to what I already have and what do you think my gain would be? Appreciate your opinion!
Larry, I been trying to locate the last post regarding the installation process (hope that it also included the TACH ADAPTER) but with no luck. Would you be kind to tell me where can I find it? Having this installing would really help me.

of AP3923 at .060 as soon as you put the MSD
system on
You will notice a better idle stronger low end
and it helps acros the entire rpm range just very
noticeable on the low end
I would say an easy 10 hp at the wheels with the
system
The MSD stuff comes with good directions and
you can also find them online at

If you run into any snags you can post here or
drop me an email, I just sent you an email address
to use the one I have here on the board don't
always work and you will get a weird YP thing
in the body of the email

"Trompitis" = heavy foot, lead foot, peeling out, fast take offs, burning rubber, getting scratch, getting on it, petal to the metal, punching it, to name a few meanings and hopefully "no tickets", LOL
So, LARRY I should go ahead and gap the AP65's that big. Okay, will do it first day I have a chance. I might have miss understood somewhere that that was just on the AP3923's. Would I be better off to just go ahead and put AP3923's in now? It's not a big deal cause we can use the AP65's in our little Ram 50, it's about due for a tune anyway.
WADAK, You'll have to tell Moe where the post is where you described "Trompitis". That was really good.
