Subject: anyone tried a Hughes manifold?l IP: Logged
Message: I see Hughes Engineering offers two versions of a manifold for us V-6ers. Anyone tried one? I called and the price was $420 plus a $300 core. I'd be interested in hearing any comments on the performance.

Message: No but I modded mine by removing the divider and
shortened the runners to 13 1/2 and there is a
very noticeable improvement over 2000 rpm
I also opened the bores to a true 50mm but have
not tried a 50mm TB yet but I plan on it after
I install a differant set of heads my crank guy
did for me says they will work better than the
KRC ported heads I am running now
Did not fill with epoxi and it still worked very
well, the few hours it took me is not worth
$420 unless you are unable to mod it yourself.
There are also a few others on this board that did
the manifold themselfs and had very good resaults
the runners are 16" stock

Message: Larry, why does your crank guy think a different set of heads will work better than ours? I'm not trying to start anything, just curious.
If you do go with another set of heads, I'd love to see the flow numbers on the heads we did for you versus the new set you get, on the same flowbench of course.

Message: higher flow #s don,t mean better.
if the higher #s are coming at the top side and the lower # head is out flowing it up to 5000-5500
rpm,s and 600lift and the higher # head is flowing
at 5200 and over,the lower flow # head is better for general use and the higher # for all out racing.[just a example]
just another great company deception.
bigger is not always better!

Message: High flow numbers may or may not mean something. However, both heads done on the same bench will produce useful comparative data in my opinion.
