Subject: Headers, Anyone Ever Make Thier Own??? IP: Logged
Message: I was just wondering how hard it would be to make your own headers for the 3.9l V6 Magnum... Has anyone on here ever had any experiance with this??? I really don't want to pay the $800.00 that JBA wants for theirs and I have heard of a few people on here having a whole whole lot of leaking and sealing problems with the JBA's... From welds breaking and so forth... AND turn around another $200.00 for cat and muffler not to mention the pipes to have the muffler shop make... I was thinking about doing this while I was into the porting polishing, using 1.5" - 1.75" tubing for headers, going into 2.5" tubing "down pipes" and then on to 3" and into high flow 3" cat and on back through some "extreme" duals to where pipes come out right at the corners under the bumper... I'll have the muffler shop make them from the cat back...
Now I don't have any other way to bend the metal other than heating and maybe using a mold "template" to bend it around... I'm fairly good at welding and cutting, but don't know whether or not to tackle something like this, allthough you see some people doing it every day... Maybe I could make a template and have the tubing bent somewhere else with mandrel bends???
What kind of metal should I use??? Would rather use regular steel... "That way I could use my regular wire welder"... Base plate thickness???
Any companies out there supply do it yourself headers and all you have to do is weld it up right??? I know of some out there like this for the V8's, but not for the V6's...
Am I way out of my league here??? Any thoughts at all???

Message: My mechanic made a set of headers for a chevy 350 that was put on a fox body mustang. He had the pipe bender and metal to do it with. If you really want a set he will probably do it for half that amount. However I will have to have payment first and it may take a couple of weeks because he stays backed. He is a really good friend of mine and would do it for me. If interested email me at jasonclutter@hotmail.com
