Subject: Who cares about Global Warming IP: Logged
Message: What should I know about "playing with" the idle set screw? Can I just drill through the cap that Chrysler puts on the throttle body? Are there any other adjustments I need to make? (disconnect computer)
Also my computer code is coming up 55. Are there other codes that I cant get to besides the dash board indicator?
Thanks

Message: Code 55 is normal.
The throttle blade set screw is not for idle adjustment...the PCM and IAC solenoid take care of the idle.

Message: Well... it'll lean the mixture out... Your not increasing the flow of fuel, your just increasing the airflow. Yeah, it might kick the idle up, but it's not the right way to do it...
Why do you want to kick it up anyway?

Message: So would I have to have some sort of electronic device to re-set my idle. It is normal when cold and then runs at about 1100-1200 when fully warm.
What is going on?

Message: Not sure if this is within you guys' area of expertise, however, I have a 94 Dodge Spirit with the 2.2l 4cyl engine and the 3 speed torqueflite transmission. I'm getting a trouble code 52, which indicates a rich air/fuel mixture detected by the O2 sensor, and I have to rev the engine to get the transmission to engage after shifting into reverse. I have found that if I bring the engine speed up slightly the transmission shifts into reverse smoothly every time (and harshly, requiring a post shift-rev every time if not). This tells me that the idle speed is too low and there isn't sufficient hydraulic pressure to allow the transmission to shift into reverse until the engine speed is increased. I'm thinking of killing two birds with one stone here, that is, leaning the mixture, and fixing my transmission problems by adjusting this "throttle blade set screw" that is refrenced here.
Only one question:
Where is it?
Like I say, this probably isn't a question that's easily answered, what with the Spirit's single point fuel-injection throttle body and all, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Neither my Haynes manual, nor my recently acquired factory service manual say anyting about this adjustment.
Mr. Spork
