Message: I was wondering, if I did the timing mod, and went with a chip later on like the ASE one, would it advance my timing way to much? Or could I have ASE or whoever, take some of the timing out of ther echip?

If you get any ping you can just losen the bolts
that hold the sensor and slide it back to the
stock posistion.
Do the mod it will give you better low end and
gas mileage. If you get ping try colder plugs
and thermostat, on a stock computer its rare
they run some very mild timming curves.
I made a sensor mount that I can grab 10 degrees
with but can only run 3 with a mopar pcm or I get
ping. with the stock comp I went 8
Its not a mod that cant be changed back in 5 minits.
Go for it

Message: This is a mod I just started researching. J&J are there certain year V6's that this is effective on and other years it's not? I have a 1997 V6 Dakota. I'm Also interested in the flex-a-lite 150 fan mod too. Some posts indicate over haeting problems. I know you've done the fan mod and was woundering what experiances you've had. I live in Wisconsin and we do get hot weather here. I however don't want to get caught with marginal cooling problems.

I bought a replacement sensor detached the wires
cut the sensor in half machined a curved bracket
to move the sensor over more, yes it pinged with
stock comp over 8 mopar performance pcm over 3
so its sitting at 3 advance.
I have an ASE I got about 2 years ago but don't
want to get rid of it at this time.
If you are 97 up superchips work very well better
timing and fuel curves more performance and gas
mileage
Never had a overheat prob even in 90 degree
weather the BM 150 comes with an adjustable thermo
switch just takes a little time to adjust them
if you do a search on this board for fan wireing
diagrams I have a post with the wiering a master
disconect switch and how to put a red LED in your
truck with the switch to see when the fan is running.

Message: The superchips site says 1998 and newer. I know about the speed sensor change in 1998. Will all other parameters of this flash work on a 1997.
Also how do additional mods affect the supperchips program? Is there a point that it's not benificial?
Here is where I'm at. K&N FIPK2,used V8 throttle body,Crower 1.7's,180 T-stat,IAT relocate.
Next will be an MSD 6A,Coil and wires.Questions here... are there any additional parts needed to make the MSD work? (IE tach adaptor etc.)
Dynomax 17748 muffler. What are the next logical steps from here? Where do you reach the mod diminished return for the buck point??

Message: Ya I was wrong there its 98 up for the superchips.
You will need the tack adapter on your 98
headers from there its internal mods stroker crank
higher compression.
You can also add nitrious or a blower S/C

Message: Crap,I have a 1997 3.9 V6 2WD. What software is available. I belive that one of your posts,Larry, stated that ASE is no longer sold in the USA. I talked to superchips and the person gave me a recommendation to call fast chips. He didn't sound to confident in his recommendation though. What is my best option?
Do I still need a tach adaptor on a 1997? (part #?)
I wasn't quite clear in the above thread about leaving the crank sensor mod on advance once a software plrogram is installed.
Larry after reading several of posts I see you from Wisconson too. You mentioned "Gods Country" I belive. Are you in the La Crosse area?

Message: I had some time this afternoon so I thought I would take a shot at the crank sensor mod today.
It was easy enough to locate. Now what is the trick to get a wrench on the bolts? I cant fit my hand past the Y pipe from underneath. There is no way that I can see from the top. Do you need to remove the wheel well or the Y pipe?? Or is there something real obvious that I missed?? Was hoping to complete today(?)

Message: The crank sensor is a real pain on the G3's
because they stufed the motor deeper back but it
can be done.
I am over 200 miles from La Crosse area I am right
on the mishagan border very top of the state of WI
The best thing to do is install the MSD if you get
any engine codes than get the tack adpt I cant
remember if it was 97 or 98 that they made some
changes and that happened on the older trucks you
did not have the prob and did not need the adapter

I beleave in 98 is when they started to do vin
flashes so I don't think the 97 comp will work
on a 98 not posiive but prety sure
