I have a one family owned 90 3.9 extended cab dak @ 161k. The truck has been very well maintained mechanically including a log of maintainence and gas from 0 miles. The truck has started slipping out of overdrive at 70-80 miles an hour (right around the speed limit). This was almost directly preceded by the cruise control acting "funny" and finally stopped using it because at the slightest downhill it would mash to the floor and stick until you turned it off (or break). A dealership (recently defunct) shop manager took it out for some data logging (computer tests at 70mph) he couldn't catch the problem on the computer, but did have it happen to him.... The strange thing is that it's worse (more frequent) in the flats than the hills. The mechanic seemed to think that all the hydralics were fine and that it was a sensor. Everything seems fine as long as I don't mess with OD...1-3 are great as when I started driving (92). It's as if the overdrive is cutting out early (half of pedal travel) and then cutting back in because of lack of gas or because it realizes that it should be in overdrive....??? Any Suggestions or message date/times are greatly appreciated, oh and I changed the fluid and filter about 5000 miles ago and it was rather clean fluid and very little shavings. ATF +3 No leaks since...

There is a trans temp sensor in the left cooling
line near the Rad but that dont sound like your
prob

There is also a gov presure sensor that could give you that prob also in the trans

I had a problem with my OD also. It wanted to "slip" out of OD on the flats for just a quick second.(RPM's would rise 200-300 and fall back down into OD).

Turned out to be my TPS, and it didn't throw any codes either.

So the part is on the way: Autozone had it for less than half of Napa and Carquest, so I decided to wait..... Did the TPS affect cruise control for anyone?

Yea, thats when I noticed it the most.

60-75mph, on flat freeway with cruise on, like I
said, new TPS fixed it all!
