Subject: Fuel Filter IP: Logged
Message: So.....umm.....what do I do?
I know the damn filter is in the tank, and it's gonna be a PITA to change it.
Have yall replaced yalls fuel filters? I have 96,5XX hard miles on my 97 Dak and I think it needs replacing. I saw some where about how you can install an external fuel filter in the engine bay some how?
I'm running out of ideas why my truck is choking, bogging out, and backfiring on me.
Help Please.

Message: They arent really that bad to change....Just a little time and patients is all it takes. There are two ways to do it. Either drop the tank and change it or Take the bed loose and do it...You can take the bed loose, jack it up and get at it that way...The most practical way to do it id to buy a body lift and take the bed loose, Fix the fuel pump, and install the body lift....Kill two birds with one stone!!!

Message: Cool, thanks for the info man. I guess 1 of these days I have to bite the bullet and do it.
Anyone know that dirty fuel filter could be the reason why my truck is choking and backfires?

Message: fuel filter is bottom left side of engine and just follow the fuel line from the carb to the filter cost about 3$ match up at auto parts place and just pull and replace the 3 hoses takes about 5 minutes tops unless you are talking about the fuel pump.

Message: Check the fuel presure, your starving bogging and
backfireing could be something else
they run anywhere from 40 to 50 lbs multiport
2001 also in tank
There are 2 reasons they put the pump in the tank
1 they push better than they pull
2 the gas helps keep the pump cool
3 yes a PITA but now you know why they are there

Message: Thanks Larry, you're always a big help around here.
So you're saying my fuel pressure might be the cause of the bogging and backfiring?
Or are you saying to check the fuel pressure...AND my problems may be caused by something else.......not the pressure and not the fuel filter.
