Dont put the 1996 throttlebody on your 2003 3.9. You need a 97 or newer. The 92-96 used a egr system. 97 and newer do not use the egr. The 96 tb wont idle right on the 2003.

92-95 had EGR not 96

96 is OBDII

95 was the end of OBDI

Take your TB off and look it over, compare it to the one you think is a 96 they should both have all the same holes and ports the only difference will be the throttle bores and the linkage for the throttle cable you will need a throttle cable from a V8 Dakota GEN III

AS for boring it out DONT DO IT !!!!!
It will be to big for a V6

Just put it on as is and enjoy it

Help Over.............

I have a 94 Dakota 3.9 club cab, and I was wondering if you have to do anything to the computer if you want to change throttle bodies? I just want something easy to do that will give me better performance. Thanks

This is a question for J&J auto you said in past post of yours that v-8 throttle body losses low end torque and does not idle correctly compared to a throttle body that was custom done for the 3.9????

What is the diffrence in the custome one and the stock v-8 throttle body? is the custome one port and polished?

Why not port and polish the v-8 throttle body???

I want to make sure I know everything about changing my throttle body before I go and do this on my new Dakota with less than 3000 miles.. Thanks everyone Cya Slick

The custom one is a stock V6 46MM TB polished and flows as much air as a Stock unpolished V8TB. a Stock V8 TB is going to be 48MM or 50MM a stock V6 may be 42MM to 46MM.The reason to go with an F&B or Fastman V6 is its a 46MM polished rather than polishing your old one which may only be a 42MM.To check the size of yours you'll have to just eyeball it .

Hy guys I have been looking over my v-6 throttle body compared to the v-8 throttle body I just got and it looks identical except for one thing, The metal plate that is on the new throttle body that the linkage hooks up to..

There is a stud on the metal plate that the linkage hooks up to, the linkage comeing from the fire wall hooks to the out side stud and that is the same as the v-6 throttle body but the stud the linkage hooks up to that is coming from the front the stud is directly in line with the out side stud instead of being a little lower like the v-6 throttle body..

It looks like the likage that is on the truck will hook right up to the v-8 throttle body that I want to put on.. If some one could exsplain to me why I need diffrent linkage instead of useing the linkage that is on the truck, I wold apperciate it.. Cya Slick

No,

The V8 body will not cause idle probs, the idle
prob comes in if you use the wrong year

92 to 95 OBD 1 need 92 to 95 V8 body
96 and up OBD 2 need 96 and up V8 body

The stock V8 body will flow 635 cfm just right
for a V6 do not remove torque steps or air horns
bolt on as is, and you may need to change out the
throttle cable on some years, just get a V8 cable
for the same year Dak you are putting it on

Slick fishin, yes the 96 body will work on your
truck but you may need to change the cable. around
$30 new from Chrysler

The low end loss is not that noticeable on most
trucks but it does show up on a dyno test a small
loss around 2000 rpm but you gain 15 to 18 HP
everywhere else in the rpm band

The 46mm fastman and the 48mm F&B are designed to
keep the velocity up so there is absolutly no loss

Hope that straghtens this out for ya
