Subject: Superchip Re-program IP: Logged
Message: I have had the Superchip re-program on my V6 '02 5 speed Quad for about a month now. I am really impressed. I'd estimate ~ +25 rwhp, better torque, and no delays anywhere in the power band. You need 91 octane or better gas, but with 10 to 15% better mileage, that's no big deal.
My only complaint is that the original flash didn't take, and I had to send the hand-held unit back for a custom re-work. It took 2 weeks, but it was worth the wait.
The other mods that I have are a hotter Accel coil, a Flex-a-lite fan, better grounds, an Intense Performance 7" Big Mouth, a Fastman throttlebody, and a Flowmaster 70 Series muffler. All are excellent products as well.
When I first bought the truck, I thought that I might have to jump out and push, but the Superchip on top of the other mods really woke the thing up. Not quite to the 4.7 litre level, but a lot better, and with much better fuel efficiency than with the 4.7.

Message: What they do is change your fuel and timing curves
With better curves you will have more power better
efficiency and gas mileage should also improve.
Looks like all you need now is the 1.7 rockers and add
another 18 hp than go find a 4.7
I can blow the doors off a stock 4.7

Message: I have had mine for a month now as well. It is not that your truck was flashed that it did not work. For the Dodge's, Superchips only has a limited amount of the programming used and the way they have to get it makes us real lucky they were able to do what they did. If it was not for a local FL dealer they would not be able to offer a tuner for our trucks.
If you do get one of these do not be surprised if you have to send it back once the unit has saved your stock programming. I had to send mine and Perpetrates back. But it is way worth the wait and money.
My overweight truck has really made passing on a up hill road possible. It no longer takes 2 miles to get going!!!
I really like how it changes shift points and rev limitors. The added use of 3rd secondary gear is a big plus as well.
You can not get one for a 4.7 but the rest you can.

Message: I bought mine @ 285. through a group buy. I think they normal retail for around 335.. I have had mine for a few weeks, and now that I have eased up on my right foot, I have noticed all of the benifits: good milage, improved response, and more important to me, better passing ability. Not to mention the fun of ripping the tires every now and then. I have switched mine from the 91 octane setting to the 87 and back again, with no problems. Next as Larry mentioned will be the rockers.

This is not a chip. It is a programmer that connects to the plug at your left knee below the steering wheel. It re-programs you PCM. Very simply at that.
The unit is hand held and when plugged into your truck it takes over and asks what you want to do, Return to stock programming, performance tune, or towing tune. You can choose to program for larger tires, adjust rev limitors, shift points.
The reason you may have to send the unit back once you have done the initial save stock programming is due to the fact that there are several types of programs on our trucks. SInce they have already setup the template program they can modify any program that the scanner does not recognize. Each scanner has all known stock programs loaded on them. So when you save your program it scans to see if it has that program modification, if not then it tells you to send it in for a upgrade and you will not be able to change the performance settings. Dodge does not help or supply these companies with any info. The scanner does everything and it is simple to use. You have to reset the programming back to stock if you ever take it to the dealer for service. If they flash your PCM while the non stock programming is in it, it will mess your PCM up.
I do not think this goes back to the '93 year.

Message: J&J: What are rockers; where do I get them, and how much $$? I suppose that I could do a search of this site and find out.
Incidentally, I paid $600 Canadian for my Superchip programmer, which at the time was about $400 US.

Message: The Superchips tuners are for 98-03 daks. They will not work on earlier trucks. You shouldn't have to send the tuners back. Most of the initial users have supplied Superchips with base programming so you should be all set.

Message: I heard from one user that the tuners do work for 97 v6 daks, but no other 97 daks. I'd call superchips to confirm that one.
Mileage while I had mine was about the same. The tuners lean out the fuel curves some, so if you can keep your foot out of it long enough, yeah right!, you should see increased mpg.

Message: I have always thought that chips and reprogramers are the most beneficial for those with automatics ("adjusts shift points" etc). Are they worthwhile for manuals? Do they provide enough improvement in other areas if you don't have an automatic?

Message: Hi all,
I was interested in the superchips microtuner. What is everyone's opinion? Good gains? I have a lot mods on my dak and was wondering if the superchips is smog legal. In NJ, they are going to the OBD emission testing. Would this flash program pass the smog test? I think this test just looks for emission sensor failures. Is this worth the bucks? I plan to purchase from www.southeastrt.com soon. Thanks in advance.

Message: I think it is worth it. Yes it will prolly make emmissions higher but that is where the return to stock programming comes in.
Whenever you take your truck to the dealer for service or a smog check you have to return the programming to stock. It is all easy to do and take just a few minutes. Simple to use. If you get your PCM flashed at service it will mess up your programming.
Here in CA they are doing smog checks on the dyno. This is just starting and my first smog check comes up this registration period coming up. I did talk to my mech about the programmer and he said as long as you put it back to stock you are fine.

Message: so technically, one would not actually have to purchase his own superchips tuner. You could technically borrow someone else's tuner and remap your vehicle and be done with it. I'll offer anyone $50+ shipping who will loan me their tuner for one week to reprogram my truck. I'll even give you my drivers license number so you can track me down if I steal it. Do I have any takers? Up here in Michigan we dont have emissions testing so I would never have to change my mapping again.
