Subject: Help Larry!!!

Message:
The reason i want larry to help me with this problem is that he has the same K&N FIPK (57-1501) as me. Well i got the intake installed the other day then reset computer and all. Went to start it and it was normal...just ran like always. But when i started it the next morning when it was cool right after it fired up the intake made a noise like there was an air leak then i opened the hood up and checked all my connections and they where fine. Once the truck got warmed up it was fine but whenever i go to start it in the mornings it always makes this high pitch air noise like its leaking somewhere? But when the truck warms up it doesnt make that noise so it cant be a leak right?? Some help on this would be greatly appreciated!

LOL LOL

What you are hearing is the IAC opening and
grabbing some air to rev the motor up when its
cold

The K&N flow better and also you can hear the
intake, the factory set up was also a silencer
so you would not hear the noise

You should hear mine with the hole under the
scoop its loud

Did you also hook up the breather hose on the
drivers side valve cover.

So in other words ur saying that this is normal and nothing i should be concerned about? To me it sounds like somethings going wrong and i checked it again this morning..i opened up the hood and then started it and it was loud!!! Sounded like it was coming from down in the TB. But i dont know if i want to leave this on and then everybody will think i have a radiator leak or something:)because its very noticable. Im sry if i sound stupid here but maybe its just that the K&N FIPK is supposed to be that loud?

They do sound like something wrong when you get
the IAC open all the way trying to maintain an
idle.

One day I had a V6 with 1 bad injector and was
pulling the wires off one at a time to find the
bad one and it sucked so loud the bodyman that
was watching jumped back thought it was going to
blow up. That was with no air cleaner trying to
idle on just 4 cyls

Its normal to a point should only happen on cold
starts.

Thanks larry. I took my Throttle body (still have the stock V6 on)off today and cleaned it and i think i will see a little of an improvement in throttle response and idleing because it was all gummed up inside the bores and flaps.

You should have mesured the throttle plates to
see what size they were.

These things came with anything from a 42mm to 46mm

My '95 did the same thing after I put an open K&N on it. My wife was all pi$$ed off at me 'cause she thought I screwed up the truck.
Actually she complained about the sucking noise so much, I took it off & put the stock one back on.

So in other words if i get a V8 TB then the noise would basically go away? I know larry you have a V8 TB but yours still makes that same sucking noise?

I know larry has the same K&N FIPK as me and about the same yr truck but larry would adding a V8 TB make that sucking noise go away on my yr of truck? Cuz i know that the newer dakotas like 97 and up have a different intake so that may make some difference?

A bigger body would be less noticeable but I run
a 48mm F&B and on a rough start it will open and
I can hear it.

If your sucking real loud all the time you should
see why it runs rough on start because its suposed
to rev when cold if for some reason it don't its
stumbleing and opening the IAC wide open trying
to stay running.

Worn and mis gaped plugs will make it do that.
Bad cap carbon track

Low fuel presure, bad injector.

Could be the belly pan gasket small leak but
unless its real bad not worth what it takes
to repair it. If it only does it cold and goes
away within in a min.

OK thanks. So i basically just go to that site and search for the V8 (318) TB for dakota and does it have to be the same yr as my truck? Also what would i have to do to my truck if i got a bigger TB or does everything hook up just as the stock V6 one does?
