Subject: stock fog light question IP: Logged
Message: my 2000 SLT didnt come with factory fog lights so I bought the lower facia w/ fogs and plugged them into the wiring harness which already has plugs for the fogs. I also added the fog lamp relay and fuse in the fuse block under the hood. However I'm still not getting any light out of the fogs. I have yet to stick a volt meter on it to check voltage, but will do that shortly. If anyone has any ideas why they wont work please let me know. Thanks

Message: I just bought a headlight switch from Auto Zone for $30. It has the cargo / foglight switch built in.

Message: S.hardy, are you saying you were able to get a new switch to totally replace the stock one? My head light switch doesn't pull out so that would be great.

Message: Yep $30 bucks is what they charged me plus tax. The dealer wanted $55.
I haven't received it yet I'm suppose to pick it up Tuesday.
The lady behind the counter said hers went bad last year. She said her switch wouldn't pull out and she paid a little over $50, and was surprised to see the price go down.
I did a search on this forum and found someone had posted how to take the switch apart and fix it.
It's really simple, you might try it yourself before buying one. Watch out for the 3 brass contacts and springs. Do it over something that will catch the parts.

Message: I know the switch was different with factory fog equipped dakotas but from what I understand if you buy the fog lights seperately, they turn on as soon as you switch on the fog and/or headlights.
