Message: Yes I would or get someone to help you
Take a light and crawl under the truck and have
your helper turn the wheel back and forth slowly
and watch all the parts tie rod ends pitman and
idler arm for play.
You may also want to check the A arm bushings for
any play espesaly the right passenger side like
to go bad
Replace any lose parts you find and than get it
lined.
You can also check the ball joints by jacking up
the truck grab the tire on top and bottom and
try to force it back and forth top to bottom and
see if there is any movement there should be none.
replacing the bad parts yourself will save you a
lot of money for labor than go to a good shop and
get a computerized 4 wheel alignment done around
$70

Message: oh yea one more question the mechanic that turned my rotors and drums said the tires i purchased have extremely hard side walls. I know this would pick up road vibrations and bumps but not constantly shaking at 55-65 mph right??
Thanx agian

Thats a crock, you may feel the road bumps better
but it would not make your truck shake or shimmy
I would recomend a differant mechanic, sounds like
this guy is working on the moon rover must have
blasted off before he talked to ya
Sidewalls to hard OK, That's the first time I have
heard that one LOL

Message: Check the upper and lower ball joints. I just did Mopar replacements on my '98 Dakota. (Don't use factory parts, they don't have zerks for lubrication) A world of difference. Before changing the joints, the truck used to almost jump off the road when going over a hard bump or railroad tracks. Note, this is not a job for the weak or improperly "tooled" individual. It will take some serious sweat and about 4 to 5 hours of time. Inspite of the pain it's worth it. Parts are $200 retail and doing the job saves $300 in labor. Don't forget to get it aligned after.
