Subject: 50 mm TB on a 6? IP: Logged
Message: I have a chance to pick up a used F&B 50mm TB.
I have a 2000 V6 auto, 2wd SS. My only mods currently are a K&N Cone filter and 180 thermostat with Autolite plugs....sad i know, but my 2 other 12 sec vehicles in progress take away from my fun money. ;^)
So anyways...is the 50 Too big? I read that 48 is reccomended...but will the 50 hurt me that much?
Whats the stock size?
Thanks

Message: Stock 42 44mm
A V8 body has 50mm throttle plates with a 48mm
torque step so 48mm
50mm you will lose all your low end torque do
to a loss in velocity the speed the air is
traveling, unless you have a turbo or S/C its to
big.
If you look down a regular carb you will see it
is smaller halve way in also known as veturi
speeds up air flow

Message: Thanks for the info...hate to beat a dead horse...and i know really the only way to understand is to see for my self..but how much loss we talkin here? I do plan on modding the truck a bit more...just not till my Vette and Neon are done. Im getting it for a great deal and thats the reason im really pushing for it. I can deal with a lil loss in torque, as its not a towing monster or anything...Am I going to gain a bit of top end pwr? How about gas mileage?
The stock TB on my Neon is a 48mm...and i have had 52,55 and 60mm TBs on that, could deal with the loss of the low end, the top end was crazy. Im kinda assuming this will be a bit the same.
Thanks again...
