Subject: 2-3 Times? IP: Logged
Message: I need some help. I have a 93 Dakota with the 3.9. I noticed that on the first attempt to start the truck in the mornings that it does not hit on the first try. I found that if I cycle the ignition twice it fires right up. What could this be? It only does this is the morning and the truck runs and cranks great the rest of the day.

Message: When you turn the key what happens? Does it click or try to turn over or nothing? How many miles you have? It could be the starter/solenoid. I have a 92 w/140k and my starter just started acting funny and just replaced it for $75 and an hour time. Dont get the cheap one at autozone or its contacts might not line up, of course, if that is the problem.

Message: It will just turn over and not run. But if I cycle the ignition a couple of times it will run. The funny thing is that it only does this is the morning at it runs fine the rest of the day. Any ideas?

Message: Its very possible you are experiencing "bleed back" in the fuel system. After the vehicle has been parked for several hours, the fuel in the lines slowly leaks back into the tank due to the anti-drainback feature failing. Many of these have a kit available to replace the seals in the fuel pump for anti-drainback, sometimes you can add a check-valve in line and sometimes replacement of the fuel pump is required. Or, you can turn the key on and off 2 or 3 times before turning it to the start position (lol). Turning the key, in effect, is briefly actuating the fuel pump and re-pressurizing the system.
Before I am flamed by anyone, THIS IS NOT A DIAGNOSIS NOR IS IT AN INCINUATION THAT I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. AS ALWAYS, PROPER DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD AVAILABLE FOR DETERMINING THE PROPER REPAIR NEEDED.
I hate that I felt the need to do that, but due to recent flaming I had to cover my azz.

Message: thanks for the disclaimer :) I noticed that in the Haynes book it said that there is a fuel pressure regulator on the side of the throttle body, I wonder if this is causing the problem? I would rather switch this then drop the tank.

Message: After the engine has been shut off for several hours or overnite, press the nozzle in the fuel pressure port at the fuel rail. If you get no fuel, then it is bleed-back.

Message: I did this and there was not fuel coming out of the valve.. Could the fuel pressure regulator cause this or do you think that it is the pump?
