Message: I have a 00 Dakota with the 3.9. Engine is stock, with a K&N Filter. Any ideas on what to do to get better gas mileage? Has anyone tryed the Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer? Does a Cat-Back system really help that much? any advise welcomed.

Message: I've heard the TB spacers are just a waste of money for the most parts...never used one myself so I can't base that on my own experience, but it's mentioned a lot on here. Maybe get a tonneau cover? It wouldn't help you a lot, but it might give you 1 or 2 mpg?

Message: open up your exhaust first, if you can, get a better-flowing cat, then do about a dual 2 1/4", or dual 2 1/4" into a single 2 1/2" inch exhaust system, that way you wont lose bottom end, and it will open your exhaust up alot, which will give you better mpg, and some other minor things are keeping the truck clean and waxed, that will let it glide through air better, use the air conditioning only on the highway, since in the city it puts alot of strain on the engine, and a big one, just watch taht right foot

Message: if ur truck is bought used you might want to do a compression test...you never know how the "other guy" ran that truck....if u bought it new and you have always had good gas mileage mileage before it might time for your tune up of plugs and cap/rotor..if it comes with them anymore....TB spacers to me are a waste of time...adding 1 inch to height of incoming air might do a little for performance but i don't think it will solve the mileage problem...try using synthetics and additives to all components that have fluids...from radiator to rear axle...a tonneau cover helps out alot and not driving fast helps a ton..stop and go traffic is a major killer and to finish it off ...replace the fuel filter...found that to be a major contributor to crappy mileage....plus it improves response

Message: Could someone tell me what I copuld expect to pay for a reputable shop to replace my fuel filter. I have a 99 3.9 CC. The dealer wanted I think 700+ to replace it when I brought my truck in for a freak one day stalling problem that went away on its own. I didn't realize running the gauge down close to empty was such a strain on pump and filter until recently. Can the pump/filter be tested for efficacy before yanking it? I have IMO a very sluggish 3.9 that I am trying to wake up just a little. I have almost 75,000 miles on my truck. I put in 3923's a few weeks ago and it lessened my power if anything. Just switched to synthetic oil today, coming soon CAI, exhaust, and possibly v8 TB.

Message: DO THE FUEL FILTER YOURSELF...make sure you take out the relay for fuel pump and start the truck so it runs out of fuel in the line...the pressure will then be low enough to replace the filter...mines a 93 with the filter under driver door...really easy too...takes only 1/2hr max

Message: 93 daksport,
my filter/pump is in the tank. I was told by one mechanic that it is a sizable filter that should last some time. Will it throw a code if the pump/ filter starts acting poorly? Love my DAk, just need better throttle response.

Message: no codes..just dies..really sucks..so they moved all the filters to the pump on ur GEN huh...if its in the tanks its really easy to do...drop the tank shield...make sure there is no pressure in the lines...disconnect the battery...do it on an empty tank and use a tranny jack or a jack that has a wide platform to supprot the tank while lowering and raising especially if u do it urself...take lines off the pump on top of tank..don't break the clips that hold them...twist the locking ring and pull out the old pump..new pumps run around $150-175 for lifetime replacement..autozone sells them...the pump is friggin huge when i first saw it..but the new pump with sending unit they gave me has this massive filter on the bottom..looks like a small air filter..lol..the filter should last a long time..reverse all to put back on..took about 1-1 1/2 hrs labor to complete..so if u take it to a shop it shouldn't be more than $250-300 with them buying the pump..ask for the old 1 back too..i don't trust shops so i do things myself unless its too complicated..
