Message: I have a '97 3.9 dakota sport 5 speed still on the same clutch and the truck overall has been a beast. I have 100,000 miles and i am very close to buying a S/C (from vortech). Is it worth buying a S/C with this many miles.
mods include headers, Fastman TB, intake, 180tstat,3923,flowmaster exhaust
oh yeah I have my exhast tips cut 6 in down from the muffler am I loosing any power. Thanks

Message: I hope you aren't really serious about doing this-- The SC will roach the motor if you start putting boost to it-- 10k-15k at best.
Save your money-- build a 360 or a stroker-- You do a stroker 3.9L-- and other crazyness... but if you could swing a 360, that would be a better way to spend your money.
If the SC is new--- you are looking at the same amount of money as just going with a good built 360/mild 408.

Message: I agree with rtddakota. But I would put a modified 318 in there. I know the 360 has more power, but there's something about a 318 in a Dakota. And possibly beef up the tranny with the money left over.

Message: I found a 318 at a junkyard with 90,000 miles for $800 I think it might be to much. When I do find a new motor like a 318 what else would i need to do for it to work properly on my truck.

Message: Wait for the hypertech 3175 for the 96 to 01 V6
and put the 93 oct fuel program in.
I have seen these on the 318 and 360 and they are
a very noticable upgrade from the piss poor timing
and fuel curves mopar stock PCM's run.
I am waiting on 3 of the units myself for V6
customers and if they are even close to the V8
units they will be nice.
Or An ASE Chip I have one and they work great
just not as well as the 92 performance PCM I
just got my hands on.
Droping an S/C on at 100,000 I don't think is
a good idea.

Message: I know you'll need a distributor, fuel rails and injectors, TB, probably a lot of ignition related items, and probably a different computer. I think they mount perfectly with the same engine mounts.
