Message: Superchips has delayed the shipment until this Wednesday May 28th. I have been in touch with them, some production problem caused the delay. As soon as I get one I'll setup a dyno run and do a post of the results as well as the technical info.

Message: Sorry to get everyones hopes up (and mine too) but the Superchips sales people were a bit off base when trying to sell me a programmer. I have a 1996 V6 Dak with quite a few mods. I told them all about it and then they told me about their programmer. They said it would get me more hp, unset the rev limiter, unset the speed limiter, ferm up the tranny shifts, raise the shift points and store my factory program.
Well I found out after many phone calls (I sent them my money and placed an order) that I was waiting to get a programmer that wouldn't work on my truck. It turns out that they make them for 1998 and newer trucks only, it will not effect the trans at all, and it only works with stock to lightly modded trucks (air intakes and exhaust). Mods like bigger throttle bodies, cams, Crower 1:7 rockers, etc. are not recommended by Superchips to be used with their programmer.
Needless to say I was really bummed. At least I get my money back but still I feel like I spent all this time for nothing. I hope someone with a 1998 or newer Dak takes on this project. I'll just have to sell mine and buy a newer one.

Message: Did you actually try the programmer on your truck? It may work. The 96/97 trucks were the first 2 years of the obdII system. Therefore they had a "dirtier" program and superchips did not want to mess with them. The other difference was up untill 98 the speed sensor was in the trans not the rear end. The programmer may work on your truck, just not the part that adjusts for tire sizes. Soon as one of the local guys gets one for their 3.9's I will try it on my 96.

Message: your right greg, they will work on all OBIII dakotas but will not adjust for tire size. Starting in 98, they put the speedo in the rear diff housing so 97 and earlier are a no go for the mod... plus some 98s (all this info is listed on thier website).
i have thought about it but dont know if i wanna spend the money yet

Message: I'm not saying that they will work greg, just that they may. The programs varied just enough from year to year to make it difficult to keep up with. The 96/97 trucks didnt have as well defined programs since obdII was still fairly new in those years. Its worth a shot to try though.
