Message: Which Ford did you own? My 1978 F-100, 300 inline six, three speed manual was a great truck, till it was totaled in Feb. of this year. Over 220,000 miles and 25 years old with minimal problems. All I can say is that my '91 Dakota has a lot to live up to compared to that truck.

Message: What a rediculous topic. Fords are no worse than a Dodge. There are good Fords and Dodges. I would have bought a Lightning in a flash if I could afford one. True car guys can appreciate all cars and trucks. You can make anything nice if you want to spend the bucks.

Message: I don't know who brought up this topic but I do have to say that my frist truck was a ford. It was an 87 ranger with 2.9 liter auto. Now everyone said that that motor and tranny was $hit. When the truck died it had 210,000 on the original engine and trans. The only reason it died was b/c the raditator blew a hole and it lost the coolent. If that hadn't have happened i still have it do day as my farm truck. Now I'm a huge mopar fan don't get me wong at that. I own two dakotas. I'll give credit where it due if I like a car or truck I'll say it. The only thing I'm not crazy about is those imports there just not my thing

Message: well heres another one: F*ckin Okies Really Dig'em
but on another note ive worked in an auto parts store. in the three years i was there, most of our customers were in there for parts on an old ford or a new chevey. my god there was to many dodges to remember.
Cheveys are most likely the best designed, byfar
but you give up durability. well spend a bit more for a GMC, and then you have that durability.
Fords well Henry's designers have had there heads up there asses quite a few times but there are durable.
dodge well......hell there just like ford on the designs they just dont have the durability.
So in closing i will buy a new ford and old chevey and wont make the MISTAKE of buying another dodge.
just remember this is just one mans opinion im not tryin to piss on anyones shoes.

Message: I have had good luck with all of them and like different things about them all. I do not get interested in these "what brand is better" topics but the thing is, is that they all have there ups and downs. The main problem with cars not holding up is people do not keep up with them like they should.
I have : "the older ones"
-95 Dodge Ram with a 3.9L and 180,000 miles on it with no problems.
-93 Ford F150 with a 4.9L and 81,000 miles on it also with no problems
-92 Chevy with a 4.3L, 170,000 miles on it. The only problem was a water pump at about 90,000
I can also tell you guys that they are all 6 cylinders and 4.9 gets better mileage and has a LOT more power but I the Dodge is a lot more comfortable to ride in, its just so much bigger inside the cab.

Notice on the new Chevy commercial that they only talk about Ford and not Dodge. "chevy says that the only place you will see a ford is in the rear view mirrior" but what they dont say is that Dodge sees them both in the rear view!!!!

Message: I agree with Chop. I used to be a big Chevy fan, just cause I dont know. Like I guess you like Coke and hate Pepsi, but Pepsi really does suck (like a flat Coke). First car was a Mazda Rx7, bad durability, but very refined, solid (wrecked at 120k miles).
93 Pontiac Sunbird. Ran good (3.1 5spd), had several problems, nothing major or engine related, but felt it was about to fall apart at 120k, so traded it and $2500for a
92Dakota auto w/120k now with 140k and minimal problems. When i got it the steering chunk was leaking, but we made the dealership fix it. Brakes and wheel cylinders, a starter, and a radiator hose the only problems ive had
97 Z28 6spd which was a money pit. Too intimidated to do a lot of work to it (wanted to change my own clutch but since spark plugs are hard to change, let a shop do it) It was fun, but got old after taking it from 35k to 65k miles, didnt feel refined enough to keep
95 Ford ASpire 5spd bought with 140k now has 160k for $1000. Basic obviously, but simple and easy to work on just like the Dakota, but geting 40mpg. Since Ive had it, CV axles$300 and tires all around for $130
I lost my ability to knock other cars since i am now drivng a bottom of the barrel aspire, but I enjoy drivng it and saving at the pumps, My Dak is my toy that the Z once was. I like every car I have owned, some more than others.
You must agree that they arent as reliable as they used to be. Instead, they are more powerful, expensive, refined, and harder to work on.

Seriously though...all car manufacturers have their drawbacks. It's all just personal preference. Personally I like Dodge, but I got friends who are die-hard Chevy fans and some who won't go with anything but Fords. They have all had their share of problems (nothing major) so I think it's safe to say that there isn't a "BEST" manufacturer.

Message: I'm currently driving a 90 Ford Ranger 2.3 5 speed and it just turned 222,000 on the odometer. The only problems that I have had are just the basic pproblems that you would expect from any vehicle with over 200k. I don't go anywhere without a quart of oil close by!! But the same goes for my dad's 89 Dakota 3.9 auto with over 200k. My neighbor has also had an 80 some model S10 that lasted well over 200k. I have a 99 Dakota that I bought wrecked and am currently replacing some of the sheetmetal and I really think that it should be a pretty good truck. Face it, every manufacturer rolls a lemon or two off the assymbly line every now and then and I think everyone knows that. But I also think that everyone knows that is it always fun to argue with your buddies about which is best Ford, Dodge, or Chevy!!!
